On behalf of ALF, Larry Ebner & John Reeves have filed a cert petition asking the Supreme Court to reverse a 7th Cir. decision holding that parents lack standing to challenge a public school district's "gender identity transition policy" - a policy that a K-12 student's request, keeps his or her parents in the dark about the "Gender Support Plan" that the school develops and implements to facilitate, if not encourage, gender identity transitions. Our brief discusses Supreme Court case law, and the long common-law tradition, upholding the principle that parents have a natural and legal right to direct the upbringing and education of their own children. Crystal Shores Owners Ass'n (23-1051) to decide whether federal law or state law governs the meaning of an agreement to arbitrate under the Federal Arbitration Act. The Atlantic Legal Foundation long has urged federal judges to fulfill their gatekeeper role by ensuring that expert opinions are reliable under Fed. R. Evid. 702. In an amicus brief filed today, ALF urges the Supreme Court to grant certiorari in a securities fraud case presenting the question of whether an expert opinion can substitute for alleging particularized facts relating to "falsity." ALF's brief asks the Court to hold that district judges should apply Rule 702's reliability criteria to assess the reliability of such an expert opinion.

The Supreme Court needs to decide whether federal law precludes state and local governments from filing damages suits against fossil fuel energy companies for the alleged local effects of global climate change.
