#SNEAKPEEK We've partnered with CyberPeace Institute through the #APACCyberFund to conduct a study on the challenges faced by #MSMEs in the #asiapacific region. As we celebrate International #MSMEDay, with the theme "Building a Stronger Future Together," it's essential to acknowledge the critical role of #cybersecurity in ensuring the resilience and sustainability of MSMEs. In the Asia-Pacific, cyber threats such as phishing, ransomware, and data breaches are significant impediments to stability and economic prosperity. For MSMEs, robust cybersecurity practices are not just a technical requirement but a foundation for sustainable growth and inclusive development. Here’s a sneak peek of THREE ways to promote a more secure online ecosystem in the APAC region: 👉Advanced Cybersecurity Practices 👉Ongoing Education and Cyber Training 👉Public-Private Partnerships and Community Engagement By investing in these areas, we can collectively build a more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive future for all MSMEs. Let's work together to safeguard our digital economy and support the vital role of MSMEs in our communities. #MSMEDay2024 #Cybersecurity #BuildingStrongerFuture #Resilience #Sustainability Global Cyber Alliance Anthea Mulakala

#SNEAKPEEK As we celebrate International #SMEDay, we recognize the vital role of women in small and medium-sized enterprises. Under the Strive Malaysia Program, we've partnered with The Centre for Research on Women & Gender (KANITA) to study the challenges Malaysian women entrepreneurs face. We identified significant barriers faced by women-led micro and small women entrepreneurs (MSWEs) in #Malaysia. 📌Time Poverty: 97% of women struggle to balance work, childcare, and household responsibilities, making Time Poverty a significant issue. 📌Digital Literacy: While 80% possess fundamental digital skills, only 60% effectively use social media for business, demonstrating the need to equip women entrepreneurs with digital literacy. 📌Financial Literacy: 78% of women require more information about financial institutions, while 68% find loan processes complicated. Thus, the need to increase knowledge of finance is emphasized. Despite the challenges women entrepreneurs face, they're resilient and motivated and receive significant support from their family members. Let's focus on bridging the digital gender divide, recognize the extra effort shown by our (super)women entrepreneurs, and work together to support and empower them. #SMEDay2024 #WomenInBusiness #WomenEntrepreneurs #MSWE #MastercardStriveMalaysia #MastercardMY #StriversHub Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth

On June 10, The Asia Foundation Bangladesh office held a dissemination event on key findings from the Citizens’ Perception Survey 2024 on governance, development, and society conducted jointly by The Asia Foundation and the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University, painting a picture of cautious optimism in Bangladesh. While social progress seems steady, economic concerns are rising, particularly among lower-income groups. Dr. Mirza M. Hassan, Senior Research Fellow at BIGD, presented the 2024 Citizens’ Perception Survey findings at the event. The day began with welcome remarks from Dr. Imran Matin, Executive Director of BIGD, followed by Dr. Tabasum Akseer, Senior Advisor at The Asia Foundation, who shared insights into the methodology and philosophy behind the Foundation's citizen perception surveys conducted in different countries since 2007. Key Takeaways: 1. Economic worries: A significant decline in positive economic sentiment across all income brackets, with the sharpest drop among those earning below BDT 5,000 (64% decrease since 2019). 2. Overall direction: 58% of respondents believe Bangladesh is headed in the wrong direction (political, social, economic). 3. Top concerns: Rising prices of essential goods (impacting 95%), unemployment (8%), corruption (4%), and economic downturns (4%). Media consumption: Growing use of online platforms (Facebook, YouTube) for news, but traditional TV remains dominant. Less than half perceive complete media freedom. Kazi Faisal Bin Seraj, the Bangladesh country representative for The Asia Foundation, praised the survey team in his closing speech. He emphasized the significance of public opinion in promoting accountability and transparency. The comprehensive report with detailed findings will be available on The Asia Foundation's website by July 2024. #Bangladesh #CitizensPerceptionSurvey #Economy #Politics #SocialDevelopment #TheAsiaFoundation #BRACBIGD Kazi Faisal Bin Seraj Mir Junayed Jamal Ainee Islam Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Bhuiyan Helga Fraser Iqbal Mahmood Fardeen Rahman Asinur Reza Sukla Dey Samiha Jamil Pronoy Ghosh Setu Stephaney Nafees Shafakat Ahnaf Tahmid MD Zakaria Kashfia Kayes Mohammad Sadat S.
