About us
The Arc New York is a family-led organization that advocates and provides support and services to people with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities, emphasizing choice and community engagement. The Arc New York, formerly known as NYSARC, was founded in 1949 to serve a critical mission – to improve the quality of life for people with developmental and other disabilities. What started as a support group and day nursery for families coping with these disabilities has grown to become the largest nonprofit in New York State serving those with developmental and other disabilities.

We all have boxes of old photos that we're not sure how to display; so, our friends at The Arc Erie County New York had an idea! What better way to share what The Arc Erie County New York is all about than with a history wall outlining national, state and local events impacting the disability community. The reception area of the Administrative Office located at 30 Wilson Road, Williamsville, houses both a 10+ foot long historical timeline as well as a 9+ foot long photo collage showcasing Chapter activities, individuals and staff over the past 73 years. The timeline highlights achievements such as Brown v. Board of Education, the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Olmstead decision. Agency highlights include the opening of a variety of agency programs, services and buildings as well as several rebranding occurrences. It looks great! Way to go! 👏🙌 Be sure to check it out next time you are on site! #StrongerTogether #WeMatter

Each year, The Arc New York presents scholarships to students pursuing degrees in special education, physical or occupational therapy, and other fields related to intellectual or other developmental disabilities. This year, the majority of the scholarship recipients are affiliated with our local Chapters. While we are delighted to provide support to those of the general public looking to continue their education and work the I/DD field, we are especially PROUD to be able to support those currently working beside us! We wish everyone success as they continue their education and careers in the field. 💛 Congratulations to all of The Arc New York 2024 Scholarship Recipients! 👏 🙌 #StrongerTogether #WeMatter Read about the scholarship recipients in the latest issue of CONNECTIONS ⬇ https://lnkd.in/grV_a9vp

Ann Scheetz, executive director of The Arc Ontario, recently spoke with Finger Lakes Times about her 40 years in this field. "I am reminded every day of how far our community has come in recognizing the potential and strengths of people with disabilities," Ann said during the interview. "I believe every time our community embraces a person with a disability, acceptance grows and it is our job to encourage and educate the community and businesses on what it means to be inclusive. We are well on our way, but there is always more work to be done." Read the rest of Ann's interview here: https://lnkd.in/gXy564U7 Great job, Ann! 👏 #StrongerTogether #WeMatter
