Hurricane Beryl marks an unprecedented beginning to this year’s Atlantic hurricane season as both the earliest Category 4 and Category 5 hurricane on record. The storm has already devastated communities across the Caribbean, especially St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica, and made landfall on Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula near Cancun yesterday. Team Rubicon’s International Team is working to partner with local communities that may need our help. Meanwhile, the anticipated path of Hurricane Beryl has shifted northwest toward Texas and is expected to make landfall by the end of the weekend. There is an increased risk of hurricane force winds and life-threatening storm surge in portions of northeastern Mexico and the Texas Coast late Sunday into Monday. Heavy rainfall with potential flooding and possible damaging winds are expected in the Texas Gulf Coast and eastern Texas beginning late Sunday through the midweek. There is also a threat of life-threatening rip currents throughout the weekend across the Texas Gulf Coast. Team Rubicon’s domestic teams are preparing for landfall, with more than 16,000 local Texan Greyshirts standing by to help their neighbors. Do you want to explore a possible career in the skilled trades sector? This July, Team Rubicon is working with the GAF Roofing Academy to offer free training on residential roofing in the Tampa, FL area. Graduates of the program will have the opportunity to interview with GAF's certified contractors and local employers for immediate hire into the roofing industry. Why Roofing as a Career? A solid, durable roof can protect homes, save money on repairs, and even prevent deaths when a disaster hits. But Team Rubicon’s mission to help communities before, during, and after disasters is hindered by our nation’s recent lack of skilled contractors. The Associated General Contractors of America reported that 77% of their respondents are struggling to fill craftworker positions, and 20% said hiring will get harder through the rest of 2024 and into 2025. The main reason is: not enough workers or subcontractors are available. The Time is Now! The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration forecasts a very active hurricane season with about 25 storms and 12 hurricanes, six expected to be Category 3 or higher. To help more people get trained in the trades and make more homes prepared for storms, we’re working with leading organizations like the GAF Roofing Academy. They have a proven curriculum and training program that combines realistic lessons from the GAF Roofing Academy with hands-on exercises. Team Rubicon Look Back Pt. 5: Operation Steam Wagon, May 2014 After a devastating EF3 tornado carved a path of destruction through Sutton, Nebraska, over Mother's Day weekend, a team of more than 100 Greyshirts responded. Over the course of a week, the team cleared debris, tarped roofs and provided care to three communities impacted by the disaster. The latest in national weather #trends - #TornadoAlley is shifting! 1,100+ #tornadoes have already struck the US this year, but not just in Tornado Alley states. Other states have already experienced more tornadoes in 2024 than most Tornado Alley states do in an entire year. Take Ohio, hundreds of miles from Tornado Alley, but has already recorded 71 tornadoes this year. But Oklahoma, the center of Tornado Alley, averages only 69 tornadoes annually.
