Tulare County League of Mexican American Women Responds to Recent Accusations
January 30, 2024 — Following a recent article by the Sun Gazette newspaper, the Board of Directors of the Tulare County League of Mexican American Women issues this statement to clarify our position and respond to misleading statements made.
The Tulare County League of Mexican American Women is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to encouraging civic engagement within our community. It is our mission to promote the right of citizens to vote in an open election as they choose. We wish to publicly acknowledge that we have neither endorsed nor supported any political candidate, either now or in the past.
The recent accusations made by Supervisor Pete Vander Poel regarding our involvement in the Candidate Forum on January 31 are grossly negligent and unfounded. We emphasize that our organization has not endorsed any candidate and does not take sides in political matters. The Candidate Forum, organized by our organization and community partners, is a form and not a debate. Each candidate has an equal amount of time to answer questions provided by our organizations and the participating public.
We strongly believe in the democratic process and the importance of an informed electorate. Accusations that seek to undermine the integrity of community organizations and events are not only baseless but also detrimental to the principles of open discourse and civic participation.
As we continue to uphold our commitment to nonpartisanship, the Tulare County League of Mexican American Women remains focused on fostering a politically engaged community. We invite all residents to exercise their right to vote in an open election, free from undue influence or misinformation.
Please join us on January 31, at the Exeter Memorial building, doors open at 6pm forum begins at 6:30pm.
