Happy Independence Day! How are you celebrating this year?

Today is Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Symetra will be closed in recognition of the holiday. We made Juneteenth a permanent paid holiday in 2020 as one of our commitments to promote racial equity and support social justice. Happy #PrideMonth! This month, we celebrate and recognize the queer community and the significant progress made towards creating a world where people can live and love freely, without judgement. At Symetra, we’re proud to partner with our LGBTQIA+ and ally employee resource group, Friends of Swifty, for an exciting month of Pride activities. We’re sponsoring Pride events in Bellevue and Seattle, WA, and Des Moines, IA, throughout June, and we’re hosting employee events like trivia and a lunch-and-learn session focused on homelessness and housing instability among LGBTQIA+ youth. We’re committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Let’s celebrate love, diversity and progress together! 🎉🏳️🌈

Our heartfelt thanks to Virginia W. Harris, national president of The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., for an engaging and thoughtful fireside chat at our Bellevue headquarters. Hosted by our Social Impact team in collaboration with our African American/Afro Caribbean employee resource group and our DEI Office, the richly interactive discussion explored NCBW’s mission to empower Black women and girls through education, health and economic empowerment, and our four-year partnership to support that mission.

Congratulations to Chief Operations Officer Chantel Balkovetz on receiving the 2024 Seattle ORBIE Award in the Large Enterprise category. The annual ORBIE Awards recognize technology executives for leadership, innovation and excellence. Chantel and team are doing exceptional work to innovate service and operations with a digital experience that prioritizes our customers, enhancing our work to transform Symetra into a more customer-centric organization that is built for the future. #ORBIE

Our Medical Risk Consultant (MRC) team are an exceptional group of nurses who provide clinical support to our entire stop loss division. They recently gathered at our headquarters in Bellevue, WA, for a few days of learning, collaboration and community service. It was also a great opportunity to celebrate #NationalNursesWeek and acknowledge their unwavering dedication and commitment to helping support our partners and customers. #ThankANurse
