How does a civilian doc even start to talk about frontline care to those who delivery that every day? It was an honor to get to share Team SurgiBox's work on operationalizing care in dynamic environments with the joint military medical leadership of Area 1 (US and South Korean forces nearest the DMZ) - particularly as part of the final Grand Rounds hosted by Medical Director Captain Asad Moten, who had worked so diligently throughout his tenure to advance Force Health and Readiness. I learned a lot too from the very engaged audience, not least about the wide-ranging role of medical preparedness throughout the region.

How do we cultivate leadership appetite for and success at creating innovative products across fields? MIT Sloan Prof Steven Eppinger, MIT MechE Prof Kamala Grasso, and RISD/MIT Design Prof Heewon Lee invited me to give a talk on my "founder journey" for SurgiBox to their MIT course 15.783 "Product Design and Development" full of MBAs, engineering, and design grad students. I also joined a luncheon chat and student project presentations. I loved getting to see just a bit of how they collectively tap into the innate human sense of curiosity & desire to make something, and unite that urge with experience & skills for success.

📢 Exciting News! We're thrilled to share that our esteemed clinical collaborators - Dr Debbie Lin Teodorescu, Dr Emanuele Lagazzi, Dr Dias Argandykov, Dr michael samotowka and Dr David King, MD, FACS, DABS - have recently published a research paper in the European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery. Their study, conducted in Ukraine, revealed compelling findings about the efficacy of the SurgiField System. 🔍 The research demonstrated a significant reduction in the average airborne particulate count within the SurgiField System compared to the external environment (6,753,852 n/m3 vs 232,282 n/m3, p<0.001). This represents an impressive 96.56% decrease in airborne particles within just 90 seconds of applying the SurgiField System to the surgical site. Not only does this align with CDC guidelines for environmental infection control, but it also meets the air changes per hour (ACH) goals crucial for maintaining optimal air quality control in operating rooms. 🧑🏽🔬 Additionally, the study incorporated qualitative assessments through surveys with participating Ukrainian surgeons. Their feedback highlighted the ease of assembling the SurgiField System, its potential applicability in real-case scenarios, and its potentially positive impact on reducing infection and injury risks for both patients and the surgical team. https://lnkd.in/d4FTTHXa
