Today is NATIONAL INTERN DAY and we’d like to introduce you to our summer intern, Max! Max graduated high school this spring and began interning at Surf on the OSP engineering team in June. He will be with us through the beginning of August before he heads off to college to begin studying for a mechanical engineering degree. Max plans to participate in a 3-2 engineering program where he will attend Goshen College for three years and then Notre Dame for two years. One day, he hopes to work with rockets and become an actual rocket scientist! Max says he has dreamed of working for NASA since he was a kid. Max may be new to the engineering team, but he is not new to Surf! His dad, Jason, began working for Surf CEO, Gene Crusie, as a teenager, and over the the years, Max has helped out or participated in various Surf events, whether it’s manning a booth at the county fair or participating in the recent Surf-sponsored Diamond Lake Triathlon alongside his dad and Gene. Max says outside of work and school he likes to run! He's been running since he was about 7 or 8 years old. He and his dad frequently participate in 5k’s and triathlons together. Max and his dad also like to go for a good run together at the end of the day as a way to decompress. We think it’s safe to say, Max is going places! Construction of Surf's fiber-optic network is currently in progress in Diamond Lake. As proud new members of the community, we were incredibly excited to sponsor and participate in this year's DIAMOND LAKE TRIATHLON! 🏃♀️🏊♂️🚴♂️ The triathlon is a charity event raising money and awareness to support both Cass County CASA and the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Cass County CASA helps change the future for children in foster care, and the Challenged Athletes Foundation provides adaptive sports equipment to individuals with physical disabilities. Surf team members Jason Estep, Max Estep, and Gene Crusie (who is also a member of the Triple Threat Triathlon Team) participated in the race together and won the relay division with an impressive time of 1:11:31! Meet Audrey! At heart, Audrey is a people person. As a Market Manager she is in a unique position to build and maintain relationships in the communities we serve, and has been doing an amazing job so far. She says what she loves most about working for Surf is the variety her job offers. Everyday is different and offers new challenges. She enjoys traveling to different communities, attending events, and meeting new people. “I love connecting with community members and often volunteer with organizations such as the We Care of Grundy County Food Pantry. Even if it’s not a Surf sponsored event I am able to build relationships with these organizations on Surf’s behalf through my volunteer work.” During her down time, Audrey has two main passions: fast cars and her beloved dog, Buddy. The first car Audrey ever owned was a 1980 Camaro. Her current pride and joy is an ‘08 Mustang GT, which is the fifth Mustang she’s owned so far. She also loves going to car shows to see the older cars all souped up. But as much as she loves fast cars, Audrey’s favorite time spent is with Buddy. The 70-pound shepherd mix was originally her Dad’s dog, but as he’s gotten older, she has become Buddy’s primary caretaker. They love to go for car rides, play at the park, and swim at the lake; but their favorite way to spend time together is simply a nice afternoon walk. Audrey, keep up the amazing work you’re doing.
