Improving Care for People Enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid
About us
The Medicare-Medicaid Integration Alliance (MMIA) is dedicated to improving care for the more than 12 million people dually enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid. MMIA is composed of consumer, advocacy, policy, payer, and other diverse stakeholder organizations that want healthcare and social services to be more integrated. That way, they’d work better for the millions of people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid and enable the care they receive to be more effective and efficient.

Individuals who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid exhibit greater racial and ethnic diversity compared to those who are only covered by Medicare. As a result, racial and ethnic disparities in health care disproportionately impact these dually eligible individuals. In a recent podcast episode by Resources For Integrated Care, Dr. Romilla Batra, the former Chief Medical Officer of the Medicare Advantage health plan SCAN, discusses the organization's efforts to mitigate health care disparities and shares data-driven strategies to promote health equity. More than 50% of people who are #DuallyEligible receive coverage through a #MedicareAdvantage plan. LeadingAge supports MMIA’s recommendations to @CMSgov to improve care and service for these individuals: https://buff.ly/3X6j580

Supporting informed decision-making and easier enrollment in coverage for people dually-eligible is one of MMIA’s policy priorities. We are pleased that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is advancing those priorities by making improvements to the information resources on the consumer-facing website, Medicare Plan Finder. Starting in 2025, Medicare Plan Finder will display both Medicare and Medicaid benefits for select plans serving people who are dually eligible. Having more complete information about plan benefits can improve care and service.
