Superior’s 4th Street Bridge Replacement Project in Pinellas County, Florida, received a 2024 FTBA Best in Construction Award. Despite several challenges, the project team worked diligently to replace the 4th Street Bridge between I-275 and 119th Avenue, providing wider travel lanes, an inside and outside shoulder, and a twelve-foot multi-use path separated by a barrier wall. These features will improve safety for drivers and pedestrians. Thank you to the project team for delivering #SuperiorResults and to the Florida Department of Transportation District 7 for your trust and collaboration. Who thought you could turn destruction into art? When Wilson McCray, gallery director of Sanibel’s BIG ARTS (Barrier Island Group for the Arts), showed up at our Sanibel Causeway project office requesting rusted, bent rebar recovered post-Hurricane Ian, we weren’t so sure. Even so, a crew member helped him move two loads of it into his truck, and we’re glad they did! BIG Arts Artist-In-Residence Wendy Klemperer transformed the salvaged rebar into a 600-pound sculpture of a Florida panther. Dubbed “Causeway Panther,” the sculpture is eight feet long, approximately four feet tall and two feet wide. Perhaps most fascinating is that Klemperer didn’t weld it. The salvaged rebar’s twists and curves were all formed by Mother Nature and the storm's power! Congratulations to our July #CrewOfTheMonth! Led by Foreman Matthew Prescott, our I-10 Widening Project roadway crew is responsible for prepping the roadway for concrete paving. They actively participate in our project's health, safety, and environment (HSE) management plan, regularly completing daily task hazard analyses and attending toolbox talks. The July COTM had zero safety or equipment damage incidents or near misses this last month. Thank you to this excellent group of construction professionals! Project update: Superior’s Suncoast Parkway project team successfully set Florida I-Beam (FIB) girders the week of June 10th. The crew placed 108,000-pound FIB 54s at one span per night. After several months of drought, the area experienced several inches of rain with thunderstorms during the week of placement. Nonetheless, the team was resilient and exceeded production goals. Phenomenal communication between all team members, including safety, survey, field and operations, made this feat possible! #ThisIsSuperiorConstruction #SuncoastExpressway #FDOT

Project update: Superior’s Cathedral Oaks Parkway team recently installed 9,000 linear feet of new storm drainage, shifted traffic to a detour, and installed 1,700 linear feet of 24” prestressed concrete piles and two box culverts. Additionally, they finished excavating and back-filling 200,431 cubic yards of on-site material! This $35.2 million design-build project in Clay County, Florida, consists of building a 3.3-mile stretch of two-lane divided roadway from east of SR 23 to Maryland Ave. (CR 315) in Green Cove Springs. The team will also build a six-span bridge over Peter’s Creek. We’re proud of the process they’ve made and appreciate everyone’s efficiency and hard work! #ThisIsSuperiorConstruction #ClayCounty

We recently held a ceremony in recognition of Officer Terrance Barnes, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Award of Excellence recipient for Q2 of 2024. On April 17, Ofc. Barnes and his K-9 partner, Police Service Dog Freedom, helped serve a warrant leading to the arrest of a violent felon. The suspect was accused of aggravated child abuse after a disturbing viral TikTok video was reported to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. When the arrest warrant was served, Ofc. Barnes deployed K-9 Freedom, who located the suspect hiding beneath a large pile of clothes inside a closet. Their valor and quick action ensured that no officers were injured during the arrest. Superior is proud to sponsor these quarterly awards that honor the dedication of JSO's elite officers who keep our community safe. This month’s ceremony was held at JSO’s horse barn in downtown Jacksonville and attended by numerous community members. Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating Ofc. Barnes! #ThisIsSuperiorConstruction #JSO #HonorTheBlue

Our Edgewood Avenue Project team is sprucing up Jacksonville’s Murray Hill neighborhood. The $8 million transportation project includes installing a roundabout, medians, and additional parking, along with milling and resurfacing the existing roadway. The scope also includes bridge painting and flat work. While the team was given 460 days to complete the project, they expect to finish it 35 days ahead of schedule. Kudos to the team for planning and executing at a Superior level! #ThisIsSuperiorConstruction #TransportationInfrastructure #ProjectSpotlight
