Basketball Portal Spending, Visualized It’s difficult to visualize how much money is changing hands during the transfer portal season, and where that money is coming from. In a recent NIL Wire post, they provided a data visualization created by Jason Belzer and his firm Student Athlete NIL to show the average NIL compensation relative to a player’s portal ranking. See below for Jason's firm's comprehensive look at NIL compensation for DI men’s basketball transfers next season. Tier 1 programs (P4 + Big East) spent an average of 2x the amount Tier II spent and 7x the amount Tier III & IV programs spent on men’s basketball transfers in 2024. NIL Summit 2024✅ First off, what even is the NIL Summit?⬇️ Hosted by Teamworks Influencer and Student Athlete NIL, this three day event is located at the College Football Hall of Fame (in Atlanta, GA). This event is geared toward helping student-athletes maximize NIL in every aspect. 💡Day 1- 500+ student-athletes and 50+ brands come together for a red carpet night to recognize trailblazers in the NIL landscape. I was honored to be nominated for athlete-creator of the year for this event!😃 💡Day 2- Business outfits are on as student-athletes learn from leading industry experts, accomplished athletes, and influential brands through panel sessions and workshops. Networking and content creation takes place throughout the event as well! 💡Day 3- the last of the panels take place and the event comes to a successful close. This was my second year attending and this event is truly a game changer. As an athlete-creator, there are few to none events that specifically connect athlete-creators together, so to have the opportunity to do so is amazing! Had a great time at my third NIL Summit last week in Atlanta at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame . (Shoutout to Student Athlete NIL & Teamworks Influencer for once again putting on an amazing event 🙏 ) A lot of moving pieces in the #NIL space right now. The 2024 NIL Summit was a huge success! 🥳 As a former student athlete myself, graduating just before NIL was passed, it’s truly a privilege to work in this field where I get to empower athletes in the era of NIL. In addition to my full-time role as Client Success Manager at Student Athlete NIL in the Western Region, I’m also involved in organizing the annual NIL Summit. Months of planning and countless Zoom calls led up to an incredible 3-day weekend where athletes, admins, and brands came together to leverage their NIL opportunities in amazing ways. It brings me immense joy to witness athletes from across the country gather in Atlanta, starting with familiar faces and departing with new connections and lasting friendships. This year was extra special to have my husband, Micah, current free agent entering his 4th year in the NBA, share his wisdom on building wealth beyond the game during a panel presented by Robinhood. So grateful for the real life experience & advice he shared with the athletes in attendance. Still buzzing from my first #NILSummit this past weekend. Two electric days of leading industry experts, accomplished athletes, and influential brands essentially taking a trip down memory lane imparting wisdom, sharing strategies, & providing guidance to student-athletes navigating the constantly evolving NIL landscape. I had the opportunity to relive my #LadyVol collegiate-athlete experience as a panelist alongside fellow lululemon ambassador Matt James and brand North America Sports Marketing Lead Malachi Jones during the goal-setting session, “Using purpose and vision to propel you FURTHER” where I shared a pretty brave, audacious goal for the future of 100MilesofSummer. A goal I’ve kept close to my chest but when in a room of courages young athletes leveraging their won stories on social media, I was inspired by their bravery to shout my own dreams! Later in the day, I joined a cast of rockstar humans Tasha Schwikert Moser Courtney Altemus Stephania Ergemlidze and Samuel Phillips to get raw and real about “Inner Strength: Building Resilience as an Athlete and Influence”. During our conversation two things came up for me: ⭐️ No matter how big or small you believe your story to be, it deserves to be told. ⭐️ Young female athletes need not only mentorship in navigating NIL but someone in their corner encouraging them to stand in their power. That second one became even more apparent in the several conversations I had with young women across a variety of sports. Listening to their struggles landing NIL deals, knowing how to pitch themselves, recognizing the adaptability of the real-life skills they’re building as women in sports, and ultimately, trusting they are the prize. To date, I’ve written over $50 million dollars in #NIL deals for student-athletes alone. This includes everything from small scale influencer deals for social media, to licensing of #NIL rights for large-scale campaigns such as Snickers, CBS’s Survivor, Steve Madden, Skims, and more. I’ve also had the opportunity to negotiate large scale sponsorship agreements and licensing deals with companies such as Learfield, the Big Ten, and other multimedia rights partners in the college sports space. All this being said, I couldn’t do what I do without the constant effort of every person on the Student Athlete NIL team. WE DID IT🏆 When I look at this award, I see all the athletes who once doubted their place in this space and the small push they needed to start building a 5-Star brand. I don’t remember the specific brands or the exact figures they made. What stands out is their growth and newfound passion for the process. They transformed from having private social accounts to posting weekly reels and promoting themselves boldly. They overcame major phone anxiety to confidently discussing business with executive staff members—their progress is remarkable. Our athletes have fully embraced the process. While the steps are simple, simple doesn’t mean easy. This award belongs to them. They inspire me to be a better NIL director.
