According to the State Opportunity Index: 💼 69 percent of recent graduates who received education-to-career guidance and coaching have a first job that requires a degree. 👍 63 percent were satisfied with their jobs and with the progress they are making toward their long-term career goals. 🎓 However, only about a quarter of graduates from two-year institutions, and a fifth of graduates from four-year institutions experienced personalized coaching. The bottom line is that education-to-career guidance and #coaching can be a game changer, helping students complete their #PostsecondaryEducation and position themselves for career success. Embedding quality work-based learning experiences into community colleges curriculums is a significant step in creating more equitable pathways into good careers and great lives. Kendrick Hang and Tyler Schrock from Green River College and their partners at Mentors in Tech (MinT) Kevin Wang and CodeDay Tyler Menezes have built an impressive program helping students launch into tech careers. I have learned so much from them and I look forward to seeing how we can expand this model to other colleges and regions across the country.

Non-degree credentials, specifically industry certifications, continue to be an emerging qualifier for many employers seeking to fill a job. 📈 However, measuring its effectiveness from the state-level continues to be a challenge. Check out the Education and Employment Research Center, Rutgers University’s latest blog post on their current data collection process, as well as recommendations for what state noncredit leaders and policy makers can do to help promote data collection regarding industry certifications and its effectiveness. “Industry certification data collection still sits on the launch pad in most states, but hopefully more states will be able to get these efforts off the ground, as interest around #NonDegreeCredentials grows.” https://lnkd.in/eG287czz
Check out our blog post on certifications, sharing lessons from states on their efforts to measure the value of industry certifications for learners. #Strada #certifications #credentialvalue #learneroutcomes

This is one of over 700 amazing mentor/student stories as MinT enters year 5 helping overlooked and underserved CS students launch their careers. We're so inspired by Katherine's career transformation from nursing assistant to Costco IT software engineer, with help from MinT mentors Marianne G., Christy Henriksson, Jacquie Howard, and Jonathan Raflowski. You can uplift more students like Kat by partnering with us to recruit our students, become a mentor, or sponsor a capstone project. Thank you Strada Education Foundation and Beau Boice for your steadfast support and appreciation for the partnerships that make stories like this possible, and thank you Green River College faculty and administrators Kendrick Hang, Tyler Schrock, Roseann Berg, Matthew Swenson, Andy O., and CodeDay for being amazing partners with us on this important work. https://lnkd.in/gJM4NN-C #newjob #mentorship #mentoringprogram #mentoringmatters #educationalgrant Costco Wholesale
