We are thrilled to announce the launch of Energy Community AmeriCorps! This innovative initiative has been designed to empower communities impacted by previous or pending coal mine and power plant closures. We aim to bridge the gap between environmental and economic concerns by focusing on a more diversified economic portfolio within these communities. Developed in partnership with the White House Climate Policy Office, the Energy Communities Interagency Working Group, and AmeriCorps, this project will place AmeriCorps VISTA members with local organizations working to create opportunities in advanced manufacturing, small businesses, tourism and more. You may notice these VISTA members soon impacting regions near you! The priority regions include Appalachian Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, Illinois Coal Basin, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and more. • 🌟 Happy National Intern Day! 🌟 Today, we're thrilled to spotlight Mary Orms, our Interpretation & Education Intern at Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park. Mary has been instrumental in creating more equitable and accessible field trip programming, supporting 51 educational programs that connected with over 5,000 students during her yearlong term. 📚 One of her standout achievements was during the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024, when LBJ National Historic Site was in the path of totality. Mary helped facilitate educational Park Ranger visits to six Title I schools, making this celestial event unforgettable for many young learners. 🌞🌑 Mary on increasing equity and accessibility in the park's education department: “I truly believe that I made an impact by presenting our park as an example of public land and encouraging students to seek out their public lands and parks in the future. I worked to make our educational program offerings more engaging for different types of learners from diverse backgrounds, which set a precedent of letting students guide the direction of their experience on their public lands. From my perspective, this is at the core of empowering students to take ownership of their public lands to support their learning and enrich their lives.” 🌠 We're excited to share that Mary is returning for a second AmeriCorps term with Conservation Legacy as a Curatorial Intern with LBJ National Historic Park! Join us in celebrating all of our remarkable interns who are making a significant impact within communities across the nation! 🙌 📸 Photo descriptions: 1. Corps Director for Stewards Individual Placement Program with Conservation Legacy

Truly humbling to have such a great person serving with the Community Volunteer Ambassador Program through Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy.

#PeopleOfInterior - Connecting with nature and educating visitors about these beautiful, protected areas are my favorite aspects of working with the National Park Service. I find it rewarding to help youth understand the significance of these places and why it's essential to care for the land. My passion for the outdoors began in childhood, fostering a deep connection to nature that has driven me into the fields of education and conservation. Now, my mission is to help others cultivate that same profound connection to the outdoors. One of the most valuable and unexpected aspects of my job as a Climate and Community Volunteer Ambassador at Everglades and Biscayne National Parks is witnessing firsthand how deeply interconnected our ecosystems and communities are. It's surprising to see how even small changes in the environment can have significant impacts on local wildlife, water quality, and the livelihoods of people living nearby. Additionally, the level of community engagement and the passion people have for preserving these natural treasures constantly inspire me. It's incredibly rewarding to see how educating and involving the community can lead to tangible, positive changes for our parks and our planet. Jhulian Gutierrez (he/him) is a Climate and Community Volunteer Ambassador at the Everglades and the Biscayne National Parks in Florida. Jhulian attended the University of Arizona.

🌟Meet the Executive Directors of Conservation Legacy 🌟 First up, Geoff Elliot of Stewards Individual Placements - West! Fun Fact about Geoff: Geoff has two adorable dogs, Henry and Bodie, who are quite the local celebrities! 🐾 Henry is a blue heeler and Bodie is a red heeler, and they often get mistaken for Bluey and Bingo from the popular kids' show. It wasn’t until a family friend introduced them to the show that they realized why kids and families were so excited to see them on walks. 🐶😂 Geoff's Favorite Snack: "I love food but am not much of a snacker. For me, it always comes down to leftovers. I will avoid throwing away leftover food at all costs, so I am always turning to the fridge to pull together a snack from whatever remains of a recent dinner." Thanks Geoff for leading the STW team! You rock! Stay tuned as we continue to highlight our incredible Executive Directors across the country. 💪 Stewards Individual Placements
