Chief Hearing Health Officer at Starkey Hearing Technologies. We are hiring exceptional people to join us in reinventing the hearing aid and redefining hearing loss!
Thank you to Heather Brown, A.J. Hilton and WCCO | CBS News Minnesota for the discussion this morning regarding hearing protection. The 4th of July, more than any other holiday, is associated with loud noises, like fireworks, and those can be extremely damaging to hearing. All it takes is a single blast or explosion to cause immediate and irreversible hearing damage. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, nearly 10,00 people were treated for fireworks-related injuries in the emergency room. Although frequently an afterthought, nearly one-quarter of those visits were related to trauma to the head, face or ears, including acoustic trauma. The biggest culprit is proximity to loud sounds. Adults - and especially children- should enjoy the fun, but at a safe distance, whether watching a public display or in their home/neighborhood. Another key? Wearing hearing protection! Along with sunglasses, bug spray and sunscreen, don’t forget to pack hearing protection, whether your going to a ballgame, watching a concert, or observing fireworks. Also, regardless of whether you are using earplugs or a more customized solution, make sure they fit! This is particularly important for those with small ears, or for parents of small children. I love seeing parents take their children to concerts or firework displays, but wince when I see earplugs that are poorly sized or improperly inserted. Have questions? Seek the assistance of an audiologist or hearing instrument specialist. If you are FREQUENTLY in noisy environments, consider using a customized solution. For more information, see Starkey Hearing , www.starkey.com, SoundGear or Www.soundgear.com. If your ears ring or feel “full” after watching fireworks, consider giving them a rest the following day. Avoid mowing the lawn, riding your motorcycle, going to concerts, or other loud environments to give your hearing a chance to recover. If the difficulty persists, sell the help of a hearing care professional! Thanks again for helping to raise awareness for the importance of hearing procreation! #HearBetterLiveBetter #ListenCarefully #protectYourHearing

Enjoyed representing Starkey Hearing and participating in the 2024 “Get In The Hearing Loop” Annual Industry Meeting at the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Annual Conference today n Chandler, AZ Expertly organized and moderated by Cheri Perazzoli and Ann Thomas, respectively, the panel (Tracy Bathurst, Tina Gonzales Childress, myself, Thomas Kaufmann, & Chuck Sabin) , the theme this year was “Win-Win-Win”, surrounding the premise that when more hearing aids are telecoil, BT, and Auracast enabled, and these same hearing aids are marketed and sold, consumers will have greater access to public Assistive Listening Systems (ALS). We covered a LOT of ground in 1.5 hrs, both as a panel and also with fantastic engagement with a standing-room-only crowd of attendees. Questions for the panel focused on how we work together to achieve this goal—now and as technologies continue to evolve. #Auracast #Connectivity #AssistiveListeningSystems #HearingAids #HearBetterLiveBetter

Fill Your Boots (FYB) @MilitaryBanter (on X/ Twitter) is a well known social media account within the forces community. I don't mind admitting, that when I was in the military I followed the group with equal measures of enthusiasm and dread (just in case one day I was featured on one of its posts). However, over the past couple of years, I have been amazed at how much positive work the creator of FYB and founder of Forces Compare Alfie Usher has done for those still serving and the veteran community. In recent weeks, the site advertised that an RAF Veteran misplaced their hearing aids and would have to wait for 6 months to get them replaced on the NHS. Within a short period after posting Starkey UK Starkey Hearing came to the gentlemen's rescue and has had new hearing aids fitted just in time for his 95th birthday. In the run-up to Remembrance, he invites followers to share their tributes to military personnel who are no longer here - receiving in excess of 2,000 responses. The site assisted in finding a serving couple housing near the hospital where their 14 week old baby was awaiting open heart surgery. Found temporary housing for veterans who have nowhere else to go. Lobbied Ministers for better service accommodation. The list just goes on and on and yes, it still includes all of the military banter you would expect. I am not overly sure what I expect from this post, however, I did want to share the fantastic work of FYB with those who are not currently familiar. Alfie a former paratrooper is a UK Armed Forces advocate to be reckoned with. #Defence #MentalHealth #ForcesCharity #UKArmedForces
