Dr. Benjamin Stanton at The Research Institute at Nationwide and his team have published the first comprehensive 3D analysis of the #rhabdomyosarcoma genome. This 3D analysis helped them find factors that control how the cancer grows and how certain genes work together. This breakthrough could lead to better treatments for this challenging #cancer. The 2023 grant for this research is supported by Berry Strong, a St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund honoring Caroline, who bravely fought rhabdomyosarcoma and raised awareness for childhood cancer #research. Dalton, who was 8 at the time, complained of pain in his left leg while running. A misdiagnosis and nine months later, he was properly diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in his upper left tibia. Dalton endured #chemotherapy and a limb salvage surgery, and was even declared cancer-free in February 2019. However, the #cancer returned a few months later in May. He had his left leg amputated above his left knee in August, and the following year, in February, he was, once again, declared cancer-free. A few months later in June 2020, the cancer returned in his lungs, a metastasis of Ewing #sarcoma. Dalton continued to battle, enduring multiple clinical trials and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts, he passed away at the age of 12. 💔 By establishing D-Feet Cancer The Dalton Fox Foundation in his memory, Dalton’s parents are driven to fund new research that can help other kids like their precious son. Through their charity partnership with St. Baldrick’s, they are accomplishing that goal. Their latest collaboration, combined with funding from 3 other collectives - all dedicated to finding a cure for #Ewingsarcoma - D-Feet Cancer hopes “to find targeted therapies and treatments for Ewing Sarcoma” through the Better Ewing Sarcoma Treatment (BEST) Grant. Martha was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing #sarcoma in August 2015. In the 7 years that followed, she endured 2 relapses, participated in clinical trials, and underwent surgery to remove a tumor in her lung. Throughout her journey, she remained strong, creative, and athletic, including her #love for mountain biking. Despite the best today’s medicine could offer, Martha died at the age of 20. 💔 To honor her and all that she endured and to pave the way for others to survive #Ewingsarcoma, the Forever Martha Strong Hero Fund was created.
