This week marks the last week for our full-year AmeriCorps members who began their service in November! Over 10 months, they have each committed over 1,700 hours of service to the Squam Lakes Association and the surrounding community. In the winter, you may have seen them clearing access to our trailheads after a snowstorm, maintaining trails, or leading guided hikes and programs. This summer, you may have caught them out on the lake diving to remove invasive variable milfoil, conducting water quality sampling, or maintaining our campsites. And that's just a drop in the bucket! We are so grateful for their commitment to this community, and while we are sad to see them go, we look forward to seeing what comes next! #AmeriCorps #squamlake #conservation #newhampshire

In this video, Lakes Region Conservation Corps and AmeriCorps Member, Alexa Cetta, discusses our upgraded invasive milfoil removal boat, fondly known as "Millie". Millie is custom-built to suit our needs and utilizes a DASH system (Diver-Assisted Suction Harvester). Special thanks to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Aquatic Exotic Plant Control Project and the NH Conservation Commission Moose Plate Grant Program. #invasivespecies #squamlake #conservation

Long-time Squam Lakes Association water quality volunteer and Holderness Conservation Commissioner, Bill Nesheim, is the first person on Squam to be NH LAKES LakeSmart through SLA. Our Director of Conservation, Cole Beale, evaluated Bill’s property this morning and Bill received a near-perfect score! “As a shorefront property owner on Little Squam Lake, I felt a strong sense of responsibility to help preserve the wonderful resource we all share. I first heard about LakeSmart from NH Lakes several years ago and wanted to learn how to manage my own property and do my part to best maintain and preserve the beautiful clear lake we all enjoy. The SLA LakeSmart assessment confirmed what I’d learned and implemented about how to be “lake-friendly” and gave me several good ideas for how to even better manage runoff. I’m thrilled to see this program come to Squam and honored to be the first recipient of the SLA LakeSmart Award.” — Bill Nesheim Learn more about the Squam Campaign and the LakeSmart program here ➡️ https://squamcampaign.org/ Shout out to United South End Settlements at Camp Hale for leading the way on this by being the first LakeSmart property on Squam! #SquamLake #LakesRegion #NewHampshire
