Spencer Stuart in the UK was pleased to support the FTSE Women Leaders Review in the recent appointment of three new members of the Review’s Steering Group.
The Co-Chairs of the FTSE Women Leaders Review, Penny James and Nimesh Patel, are delighted to announce that Monique Carter, Chris Grigg and Pev Hooper have been appointed to the Steering Group of the Review, the UK’s Government-backed, business-led voluntary framework sponsored by KPMG UK and Lloyds Banking Group and focused on improving women’s representation on the boards and leadership teams of the FTSE 350 and 50 of the UK’s largest private companies. Monique Carter is a multi-faceted senior leader with a strong track record in driving the DE&I, talent and culture agendas across a range of high-profile companies. She is currently the People & Organisation Director at Anglo American Plc and prior to that held senior HR roles at Novo-Nordisk A.S., GKN and Akzo Nobel N.V. As a result, she brings wide-ranging experience across the pharmaceutical, mining and healthcare industries as well as a valuable international perspective. Chris Grigg is a highly regarded Chair and Non Executive Director. He is Chair of the UK Infrastructure Bank, Chair of Evelyn Partners, the PE-owned wealth management business, and is on the Corporate Board of Cancer Research UK. Prior to this, he was CEO of British Land Plc and CEO of the Commercial Bank at Barclays. Chris’s insights, networks and experience of cultural transformation will be invaluable to the Review. Pev Hooper is a Managing Partner of CVC Capital Partners who brings a wealth of experience to the Review having held roles on multiple boards within the CVC portfolio, including Lipton Teas, Six Nations Rugby, Away Resorts, the RAC, Domestic & General, NewDay, SkyBet, Merlin Entertainments and Virgin Active. Penny James & Nimesh Patel: “We are delighted that Monique, Chris and Pev will be joining the Steering Group of the Review. The combination of their experience, expertise and personal commitment will be key to driving further progress in the representation of women at the top of British industry. Over the last decade we have seen a transformation in the gender balance of boards and leadership teams but there remains much to do to embed and build on that change. These highly experienced senior leaders will play a critical role in delivering on our ambitions.” Vivienne Artz OBE FCSI (Hon) CMgr CCMI AIGP: “Whilst gender equality is now at the core of the modern business agenda there is more work to be done to cement this change and drive further gains. With their breadth of experience from a range of sectors Monique, Chris and Pev will bring fresh insight and perspective to the Review and I look forward to working with them to advance women’s representation at the helm of UK businesses.” The Co-Chairs of the Review would like to thank the leadership advisory firm, Spencer Stuart, for their counsel and support in the search for the new Steering Group members which they kindly provided on a pro-bono basis.

Spencer Stuart was pleased to participate in the second module of the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development 2024 Leadership Program. Speaking to a group of 50 high-potential business leaders from around the world, Katy Jarratt gave a keynote address on the intersection of business, sustainable development and leadership. Among the topics Katy discussed were the hallmarks of good sustainability talent, the unlocks for sustainability success in a corporate environment and the increasing need to work with the finance function to deliver a triple bottom line. The room was highly engaged throughout the session, and Katy responded to an array of thoughtful and practical questions from the Leadership Program participants, from how to translate a list of needs to various stakeholders in a global company to how managing reporting responsibilities can be balanced with value creation from sustainability. The WBCSD Leadership Program is a professional and leadership-development opportunity that aims to provide current and future business leaders with an in-depth understanding of sustainability challenges and opportunities. This session in New York was part of a module that began at Yale University and involved in-depth conversations exploring sustainable development, innovation, strategy, and leadership. https://bit.ly/4cxV2DB
