Sweet Bear Bear found a loving home after the confusion and trauma of losing his loving dad. Thanks to his microchip and the strong relationship between the SPCA of Texas and Dallas Animal Services (DAS), this adorable puppy found his way back to the SPCA Dallas Animal Care Center after his owner passed away at METHODIST DALLAS MEDICAL CENTER. Nurses who cared for the owner were determined to find the pup and to find him a loving home. After searching for 11 days, they learned Bear Bear was safe at the SPCA of Texas. This, after he had been taken to DAS from the hospital. Luckily, Bear Bear’s microchip indicated he had been adopted from the SPCA of Texas, so DAS let us know right away he was there. We never turn an alumni away, so our transport team picked him up. Bear Bear was treated for minor abrasions and then made available for adoption. Having not given up hope, Critical Care Nurse Dezorey Arocha found Bear Bear on our Adoption page and we received an email from one of her coworkers. Our fabulous adoptions team reached out and the next day, Bear Bear—now Asher—had a new, loving forever home with three other pups! Jill Dowdy, the SPCA of Texas May Volunteer of the Month, is our behind-the-scenes superstar! She’s been working with the SPCA of Texas since September of 2021 and wouldn’t think of doing anything else. “Jill focuses on all of our behind-the-scenes-needs like laundry and dishes, and even helps prep for our vaccine events prepping paperwork and drawing up vaccines,” wrote one of her nominators. “She focuses on all of our behind-the-scenes needs, and even helps prep for our vaccine events prepping paperwork and drawing up vaccines,” wrote another nominator. “Jill focuses on the behind-the-scenes area and is not scared to get dirty. She makes sure the laundry room is always neat and tidy and helps in the Martin Clinic!” Jill became involved with the SPCA of Texas because her parents “were always involved somehow with the SPCA,” she smiled. Sundays at the SPCA of Texas have been a whole lot brighter since Theresa Isenhour—our April Volunteer of the Month—started volunteering with our Foster team. “She has really helped the Foster department SO much especially on Sundays with training fosters, appointments and with keeping our offices tidy and stocked,” wrote one nominator. Theresa has had a soft spot for the Foster team since December of 2022. “I was drawn to volunteer with the SPCA of Texas because of the willingness of the Foster team—especially Kasey Berry—to serve as match maker for my first foster after I lost my dog, Blizzard, in December 2022,” she said. SPCA of Texas' March Volunteer of the Month Stan McDonald makes a huge impact on our organization! Our employees and shelter pets look forward to Mondays thanks to the joy and exuberance Stan brings and shares with all of us. Stan has been a weekly volunteer since May of 2022. Each Monday he comes in early to clean the cat rooms, then spends the day passing out enrichment goodies to our pups—and sometimes our employees—at both the Dallas Animal Care Center (DACC) and the Russell E.
