Today, we’re thrilled to share that Spark the Journey has been selected to receive a $2 million gift as an awardee of the Yield Giving Open Call managed by Lever for Change. This unrestricted gift – the largest in our thirty-year history – will significantly increase the impact that Spark is able to make in the Washington D.C. region. It enables us to further our mission of preparing more Black and Brown young adults from DC's low-income communities for college and career success through mentoring. From Khari Brown, Spark CEO and President: “We are deeply honored that Yield Giving has awarded Spark the Journey these funds, which will enable us to expand our reach and serve even more young people on the path to economic mobility. This gift is a testament to the life-changing impact that mentorship and a community of support can provide.” Learn more about this milestone grant here: https://lnkd.in/g2XiaMCP #YieldGiving #YieldGivingOpenCall #SocialImpact #OpenCall

About us
We provide mentorship and a community of support for young adults to chart their own paths to achieving college and career success. Thank you to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for providing valuable advice to our high school participants at our summer Career Exploration event! 🏥 🏥 Our exploration event featured a panel of doctors, nurses, and medical students who shared their experiences and motivations for pursuing their careers in medicine. Our high school participants gained deep insight into the medical field, learned how to navigate which career to pursue, and left the event with an understanding of the importance of finding their true passion. #SparktheJourney #MentoringMatters #DCNonprofit

Today, we wrap up our program participant success stories with Hayshlin. Her journey continues this Fall at American University! "A lesson I’ve learned from my mentor that I believe will be the most helpful in college is to simply let myself be. I often stop myself from doing certain things or acting in a certain way because of the people around me. My mentor has helped me become comfortable just going for more of the things I want to do and further developing my individual identity." This month, our program participants are sharing their success stories as they prepare to continue their journeys. Any gift you make between now and the end of June will count TWICE in addition to supporting the college and career journeys of our participants. Ted Schwab, Co-founder and Chairman Emeritus of Spark the Journey, will match up to $5,000 in donations this month as part of our My Journey Continues celebration! My Journey Continues at Temple University! 📚️📚️ " When I started with Spark the Journey, I wasn’t very open-minded. I didn’t like trying new things. And I had never been part of a community that felt like family. Spark was different. They introduced me to my mentor, Vi, who’s one of the best listeners I know. I really appreciate that she’s always there for me, no matter what I need to talk about, and she gives incredible advice. She’s not just a mentor – she’s also become a true friend. I had a great day today. I had so much fun at the botanical garden. I would like to thank Spark the Journey for introducing me to a lifelong friend, Ritchie R. Meeting my mentor was incredible, and the valuable advice and wisdom shared will stay with me always. We saw an astonishing garden. The greenhouses displayed a wide variety of exotic plants. Afterward, we went out for lunch and enjoyed some amazing new dishes.
