SSPADS provides shelter, housing, and supportive services that help people find pathways home.
About us
South Suburban PADS was founded in 1990 by community leaders who were motivated by their faith and values to help people overcome homelessness. Their inspiring vision called up community volunteers to provide Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS). Their efforts helped open the first church-based emergency shelters just in time for Christmas. Today, their legacy endures as thousands of people volunteer every year to continue providing shelter, meals, affordable housing, and services to help people overcome homelessness and build brighter futures.

This was such a sad result to hear and will affect the clients we serve. "The Supreme Court ruled in City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson that people experiencing homelessness can be arrested for sleeping in a public place when there are no other adequate shelter options provided locally. This ruling will do nothing to address the primary cause of homelessness in the United States: a severe, prolonged, nationwide shortage of affordable housing." (From the National Alliance to End Homelessness) #endhomelessness #pathwayshome #affordablehousing #unhousedneighbors #homelessnessmatters #endpovertynow
"We are incredibly disappointed and we're worried about how quickly some communities will move to enact local ordinances that are now legal under this ruling." - Alliance CEO Ann Oliva

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear Gloria Johnson, et al. v. Grants Pass, Oregon, which will determine if it’s cruel and unusual punishment to ticket and arrest citizens for sleeping in public spaces, even if they have nowhere else to go. As members of the movement to solve homelessness, you know firsthand that fines and arrest records make it even harder for people to get and keep a roof over their heads. Handcuffs do not get anyone closer to housing. The real solution is providing access to affordable housing and the support services needed to become stable. #PathwaysHome #PathwayHome #unhoused #housingfirst #HousingForAll #endinghomelesness #preventinghomelessness #HomelessnessIsSolvable #JohnsonVGrantsPass #unhousedneighbors @cmtysolutions @BuiltForZero

One of SSPADS's biggest supporters is collecting food donations to give to pantries that support folks in need across the Southland, including our clients. Please help if you can! We're all in this together. Food needed! Help make the United Way of Metro Chicago's biggest food collection event of the year a success. Donations of non-perishable food and toiletries will be delivered directly to local food pantries – supporting our neighbors in the Southland. Drop off donations on April Food Day, 4/25 between 10am–2pm at the Tinley Park Convention Center. Or in advance at a participating drop-off location. #AprilFoodDay #LIVEUNITED #endhunger #unitedway #neighbors #goodneighbors #community
