Kelly Huckeriede, our HR & Compliance Manager, was recently blessed with the opportunity to accompany her dad, a Vietnam War Veteran who served from 1965-1967, on his Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Northeast Indiana Veterans were flown to Washington DC for a day to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifice. We were so honored to sponsor Kelly's trip alongside her father (donations cover the cost of the Veteran's entire trip, but Guardians are asked to make a donation to cover a portion of their cost). Kelly's own words convey her renewed sense of gratitude after participating in this trip: "I was in awe at the amount of gratitude shown to the veterans. First and foremost by the amount of work donated by the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight volunteers, putting on a production like that could not have been easy. The surprise welcome at Reagan Airport to enhance the experience for the veterans was just the beginning of a day full of thoughtful gestures, all coordinated using time donated by volunteers. At almost every memorial that we stopped to explore, my dad was approached by a stranger and thanked for his service, which was a great experience for him. I found it interesting that the majority of those who approached him were middle school age children, on a fieldtrip. Several boys initiated a handshake, while the girls took selfies, and I found it heartening to see that generation appreciate my dad’s contribution to their freedom. During our time in the air, veterans were given the opportunity to share their service experience. Some spoke about surviving combat close calls, others talked about those that didn’t make it home. The cracking voices and tears running down a grown man’s face, decades after the experience, was humbling. It was a great reminder that we not only take our freedom for granted, but our veterans that fought to maintain our freedom are also taken for granted. This once in a lifetime experience left me with a renewed appreciation for the veterans that paid a price for me to live in freedom." #honorflight #veterans #freedom

Andrew Kipsey has been a SOLV Holdings employee for 3.5 years, joining us as Corporate Controller, and now working as our Vice President of Finance. In his words, "I have always felt a great amount of responsibility to help my team (accounting/finance) partner well with business leaders and decision makers, helping them translate raw numbers into digestible indicators of where we've been and where we're going."
