Thank you to the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) for hosting yet another evocative and productive conference. It was lovely catching up with so many friends, hearing about your projects, and meeting new connections. SCUP re-energizes me every year and reminds me how lucky I am to have found my place and people. This year was especially gratifying as I got to share a stage with three higher-ed giants and all-around wonderful humans that I greatly admire: Allison Wilson, AIA, LEED AP, WELL AP, Bryan Alexander, and Ed Venit, Ph.D. Thank you to everyone who came and listened to our presentation and then rolled up your sleeves to get working on your ideas. Building Relationships & Gaining New Insights with SCUP! Earlier this week marked the end of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP)'s 2024 Annual Conference in Philadelphia and my time as a 2023 – 2024 SCUP Emerging Leader! One year ago, I was selected nationally to join this incredible community and become immersed in the latest trends and best practices within higher education planning. Through SCUP, I had the privilege to connect with professionals from a wide range of disciplines within higher education, such as campus planners, architects, administrators, academic leaders, and consultants, who are at the forefront of reshaping the higher education landscape. These interactions reinforced the importance of collaborative and innovative approaches in planning to create sustainable learning environments. One of my highlights from the Annual Conference was the numerous sessions that focused on universal design and how it is implemented to create more inclusive, neurodiverse spaces for all. These sessions infused healthcare and education research to showcase how catering to diverse cognitive and sensory needs greatly enhances student, patient, and staff experiences. I'm excited to continue leveraging the insights and relationships formed through SCUP to my own work at NYU Langone Health, where we just wrapped up the first draft of our new DEI strategic plan. So much learning at the SCUP Annual Conference in Philly. I've attended very informative sessions on executing a successful and effective strategic plan, frameworks for developing and implementing a plan, and the higher education landscape.
