We had a great time talking to students, recent high school graduates and teachers at this year’s BuildMyFuture STL event! We showcased our Heavy Metals Summer Experience and introduced the students to a career in the sheet metal trade. It was a great experience to be part of the 18 different labor unions, contractors and local schools that collaborated to make this event a huge success! The future looks bright! 😎

SMACNA St. Louis and @Local 36 recently spent time with some young ladies at Jefferson College for their “From Tutu’s to Tool Belts” program. The girls, grades 5-8, completed a variety of learning activities including banging a toolbox together out of sheet metal. We had a blast! Thank you to Kati Donahue and everyone involved with this event. Events like this are going to inspire a whole new generation. Do I see a future tradeswoman here?!

Don't Forget! April 17th Lunch & Learn! Register below! Specifying Cladding Attachment Systems -The Holistic Approach Presented by Tarro Jefferies-Freer - SFS NVELOPE BDM With increasing requirements for the building enclosure in energy codes, many building projects are moving towards using exterior insulated building assemblies. Exterior insulated systems allow for increased thermal performance but much of that depends on the design of the exterior cladding attachment system. There are a wide variety of secondary structural attachment systems in the North American market competing to provide better thermal performance, which can overwhelm designers when comparing them for use on projects. The intent of the presentation will be to provide the necessary background information, methodologies and available resources to guide designers in making informed decisions for selecting the right cladding attachment systems for their projects. This is a great opportunity to earn AIA LU HSW's at this AIA Approved Continuing Education Lunch & Learn! Register here: https://lnkd.in/gBc73V4Q

SMACNA is proud to celebrate women in construction week. Here are just a few of our amazing women who keep this organization running. Bayless High School senior Tyler Schuetz was having a hard time trying to figure out what to do after high school. His choices included going to college or working a full-time job. Then his mom saw a flyer on Facebook about the 2023 Heavy Metal Summer Experience (HMSE) being offered at Sheet Metal Workers Local 36. The two-week camp offers teens a hands-on opportunity to explore a career in the sheet metal trades. Schuetz took part in last June’s program, and four months later, he became a Local 36 apprentice.
