🚙 Our colleagues from Scout Motors Inc. are pushing to craft the next generation of #electric trucks and rugged SUVs in South Carolina, USA. The site is located less than 20 miles north of Columbia and near major cities such as Charleston, Charlotte, and Atlanta. The 1.84–billion-EUR factory will create over 4,000 permanent jobs and includes ✅ a body shop, ✅ a paint shop, and ✅ final assembly buildings. 🏗 The infrastructure enhancements will continue with the addition of a new highway interchange to facilitate factory-specific traffic and minimize impacts on local traffic and roads. 🚧 Several weeks ago, Scout Motors reached a significant milestone when construction started on the physical buildings, with the first foundations and footings poured in concrete (picture 1). 🚧 In April and May, quite a bit of progress was made in digging the numerous shallow foundation footings that will eventually support the first vertical columns (picture 2). On May 15, the first vertical steel was erected on the site. This marks a major milestone and the beginning of actual building structure on the site (picture 3). Vehicle #production is targeted to begin by the end of 2026.

In many respects, South Carolina’s rise to automotive success traces back directly to BMW’s investment in the state 32 years ago. To date, the company has invested more than $13.3 billion and directly employs more than 11,000 employees in S.C.   Earlier today, BMW Group leadership, including the BMW board, welcomed Governor Henry McMaster and Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey to its Munich-based headquarters for a tour of the BMW Research and Innovation Center and the BMW Welt — showcasing the future of the #automotive industry, as well as the economic opportunities created from a company’s long-term commitment to its community.
