About us
SHOFCO helps communities in Kenya tackle the challenges posed by increasing urbanization. Our work is focused on giving power, dignity and hope to vulnerable communities, creating opportunities for them to thrive. We organize and strengthen community groups to equip them with the knowledge, skills and organizational know-how to identify appropriate solutions to their problems. To ensure communities are properly supported, we work with the public, private and third sectors to deliver essential services. These services range from health and education to economic and social empowerment programmes. Join the movement and unlock resources for community-led solutions. ******* SHOFCO currently operates in 17 slums in Nairobi, Mombasa and Western Kenya. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a US headquarters in New York City.

Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to support our SUN community members in Chala, Taita Taveta County, who were affected by recent floods. We provided household goods, including mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, and kitchen utensils, to over 300 families. Many locals suffered significant loss of property and destruction of crops due to the flooding. #sunpower

Last month, we joined the global community to mark and celebrate micro, small, and medium enterprises day. As an organization, we are a strategic player in this industry. Through our income generating activities and other core SWEP course training like tailoring, liquid soap making and beadwork, we’re helping thousands of local women to gain technical skills required to start and manage their small-scale businesses to lead dignified lives. #supportingSMEs

We are happy to announce that our Future Education Department has been actively engaging our girls in a series of Gap Year Activities. These sessions are designed to provide a holistic learning experience, equipping them with essential life skills and knowledge for a better tomorrow. Our girls are diving into the fundamentals of saving and investing, two foundational subjects often missing in conventional basic education curricula. These subjects will empower them to make informed financial decisions and set the stage for long-term success. #GapYearActivities #Budgeting #Lifeskills #saving #investing

Two days ago, we joined chess enthusiasts around the world to celebrate World Chess Day. Our community-based libraries not only offer a conducive learning environment but also serve as vibrant hubs for extracurricular activities, including board games like chess. Brian Bol is one of many young learners who discovered a passion for chess through our programs. Join us as we listen to his inspiring story. #Chessmasters

Thank you Fabien de Castilla! It was an honor to host you at our facility. We look forward to seeing you again.
🏙 Kibera is one of the biggest and most difficult slums in the world: we visited it as a team thanks to Shofco this afternoon 💥 1 million people live crammed into almost 3 square kilometers, in difficult conditions (unemployment, unhealthy conditions, lack of education, etc.) 💙 SHOFCO is doing incredible work there: distributing drinking water, providing schools, running IT and income-generating activities, protecting women and children who are victims of violence... Life there is difficult, and fortunately there are NGO like these on the ground, created and run by the residents themselves It's amazing! 🙏🏻 Thank you very much Iovanna Mesopir for your visit and well done Kennedy Odede for the start-up and the tremendous development 🤝 I hope that we'll have the opportunity to work together, particularly in developing online jobs in the slum #Kibera #NGO #CBO #SocialEntrepreneurship
