On March 14, 2024, we need 450 male volunteers (YOU) to go into Hendricks County elementary school classrooms to read a book to the students! Register and learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dHD_tFC5 This year, you'll be reading Sofia Valdez, Future Prez by Andrea Beaty! This is a hopeful and inspiring story about the difference one young person can make and how, with the support of a community, their impact can be even better. This book covers 25 of the 40 Developmental Assets and includes life experiences from all 8 groups including Support, Empowerment, Boundaries and Expectations, Constructive Use of Time, Commitment to Learning, Positive Values, Social Competence, and Positive Identity. There are three goals for the day: 1. Teach and prompt conversations with children about important character values. This is in line with Sheltering Wings' focus on the prevention of domestic violence- utilizing the 40 Developmental Assets. 2. Engage men in a volunteer initiative. The hope is to expose men to the schools to encourage them to continue volunteering in schools (or anywhere) with youth. 3. Show our community we stand for healthy values and relationships. It is our desire to raise a new generation built on trust, honor, and respect for one another. We believe men have a unique role in this preventative measure.
