Shearer’s is thrilled to mark the 10-year anniversary of our Waterford plant in Pennsylvania. Over the past decade, Waterford has grown from 27 employees to over 200, producing kettle chips, baked chips, and extruded products for our country’s top snack brands.   Our Waterford team celebrated the day with shaved ice, fun carnival games, and fundraising for charity. Here’s to another ten years of growth!

Shearer’s wishes all a happy Independence Day! Independence Day — also known as July 4th —  is celebrated every year on July 4th in the United States and commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, freeing America from British rule and marking the birth of America as its own country. We also send celebratory wishes to our Canadian friends who observed Canada Day on July 1, which honors their confederation that took place in 1867. On that day, the Constitution Act of 1867 united the three separate colonies of the Province of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada. Many people celebrate both holidays with good food, family & friends. Happy snacking! 🎉

Shearer's team members attended the SNAC International Women in Snacks (WinS) Summit in Washington, D.C., earlier this month to learn more about leadership development and advancement for female snack industry professionals. Over 40 men and women participated in a day of education covering topics of writing your own rules for success, powering your voice for meaningful connection, showing up and moving up, and critical conversations for leadership. Thank you to Sarah Shebesta and Chris Read for attending this event on behalf of Shearer's, and contributing to important dialogue regarding equal opportunity.

Shearer’s closed out May on a high note with our 15th annual Chip Chase 5K race! The event is in partnership with the Brewster, OH Firemen’s Association and helps to fund their safety efforts. This year, 198 runners participated. Our company promotes health and wellness to our team members, their families, and the local community by encouraging the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. The Chip Chase is a fun way to bring people together through physical activity. Shearer’s Foods began its journey in the food industry during the early 1900’s with a family grocery store located in Canton, OH called Shearer’s Market. Over the years, the business evolved to snack distribution and manufacturing and was officially established in 1974. Last week, Shearer’s team members participated in an Oil 101 lunch and learn hosted by our Procurement Commodities team and one of our suppliers! The afternoon lent itself to enlightenment about the canola oil category – which is a key ingredient for some of the snacks we produce – as well as the journey from seed, to factory, to consumable oil. Did you know:  - 90% of food in a bag or box is made with canola oil - Canola oil has a shelf life of one year, once opened - Shearer’s uses about 65 million pounds of canola oil per year across our network We're committed to working with suppliers who ensure high quality ingredients for our customers.
