  • Every March, Women’s History Month offers us a chance to not only recognize and honor women leaders at here SHC Tri-Valley but also to acknowledge the significant contributions women have made in American history. The 2024 theme for Women’s History Month is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” At SHC Tri-Valley, we welcome this opportunity to recognize women working to eliminate bias and discrimination from our institutions, especially in health care. Throughout March, the Women & Allies Employee Resource Group (ERG) will host events and spotlight women’s achievements, promote gender equality, and highlight our women leaders at Stanford Medicine.

  • Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the culture, history, and contributions of the LatinX community in the United States and across the world. During this Month, the LatinX & Allies ERG at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley had the opportunity to provide staff with resources, education, and fun. As we conclude the celebrations, we would like to spotlight Miguel Sarmiento as part of our ongoing efforts to promote and advocate for our LatinX colleagues. Here is his amazing story: “In May 2002, I began working for Valley Care in the Housekeeping department, also known as Environment Services. In 2007 an OR position became available and fortunately I had the opportunity to be transferred. I became an OR aid and served in that position for 14 years. During that time, I enjoyed a lot of the knowledge and experience acquired. All the doctors and nurses I worked with were excellent professionals, and some motivated me to continue my education to provide the department with a higher quality service. I really enjoyed the camaraderie that prevailed in the surgery area, of which I have fond memories with the entire team. When my son was going to be born, two nurses organized a beautiful baby shower and my entire team collaborated on such a beautiful event. My wife and I enjoyed and appreciated the nice gesture they organized for us. I am also very grateful for those who motivated me to study the CNA course and through them, I was given the opportunity to go back to school and earn my Nursing Assistant Certificate. In 2021, I was given the opportunity to prepare as a CNA in the surgery department which allowed me to gain experience and training. It should be noted that my colleagues are very hard-working and enthusiastic. They created an environment that motivates you to feel committed every day in the work you do. In July 2022, an opportunity came up in the Anesthesia Tech department. I was approached and asked if I would like to work in that department. I learned I was chosen for the position due to my hard work and my sense of responsibility. I am now an Anesthesia Tech and I am enjoying it. I enjoy the knowledge and opportunity to gain more experience in the health care field. I am highly grateful to everyone who has helped me grow in this beautiful and challenging area of health care. I especially want to thank Valley Care and Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley for the opportunity they have given me to work for this institution.”
