About us
SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology) is an international not-for-profit Society based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Through its network of international members, the Society is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific information on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, environmental sciences, marine geology, hydrogeology, and many additional related specialties. The Society supports members in their professional objectives by publication of two major scientific journals, the Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR) and PALAIOS, in addition to producing technical conferences, short courses, and Special Publications. Through SEPM's Continuing Education, Publications, Meetings, and other programs, members can both gain and exchange information pertinent to their geologic specialties.

We have a new ITEM at the SEPM bookstore: Short Course 57 Advances in the Understanding and Interpretation of Carbonates Ted E. Playton and Paul (Mitch) Harris This Short Course Notes volume contains extended abstracts of talks and posters presented at the two-day SEPM event ‘Advances in the Understanding and Interpretation of Carbonates’ held before the 2023 International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy (IMAGE) in August of 2023. The purpose of the meeting was to showcase the latest in carbonate research that has advanced the fundamental science and addressed applied industry problems. The technical program was centered around four key carbonate research themes: 1) From Carbonate Sediments to Sequences presents recent high-resolution work in the Modern/Recent and discusses the implications for carbonate preservation and heterogeneity in the deep-time rock record; 2) Deep Water Carbonates highlights new carbonate slope-to-basin models and in particular brings awareness to the presence of deep bottom currents that can significantly influence deep water deposition and erosion; 3) Visualization and Quantification of Carbonates demonstrates the utility of high-resolution imagery, innovative sampling and processing technology, seismic techniques, and forward modeling to gain new perspectives and quantify carbonate depositional morphologies, diagenetic overprints, and controls on stratigraphic architecture; and 4) Carbonate Diagenesis and Pore Systems illustrates the strengths of developing approaches such as rare earth elements and clumped isotopes in understanding carbonate diagenetic processes and stresses the importance of integrating multiple datasets to fully unravel complex fluid flow histories. This abstract volume is a comprehensive foundation of resources for those interested in cutting edge carbonate topics and applicable to both academic research and industry settings. Remember, SEPM members receive a 40% discount at checkout. This guide costs $60 softcover and digital PDF with your Member Discount Code.

👉 FINAL REMINDER ISGC Call for Abstracts DUE | 30 OCTOBER 2023 2024 International Sedimentary Geoscience Congress (ISGC) 5-8 May 2024 High Country Convention Center of Northern Arizona University Flagstaff, Arizona, USA The objective of the ISGC is to foster continuing interaction between the many sub-disciplines of sedimentary geosciences. The vision of the 2024 Congress is: “Sedimentary geoscience for a sustainable world: The past is the key to the future!” The sedimentary geologic record is rich with information geoscientists use to interpret and understand Earth’s history. Geoscientists can turn that understanding into insights on what the Earth’s future holds, allowing us to approach it sustainably. Two meeting themes encourage participants to bring a range of geological disciplines to the analysis and interpretation of Earth’s sedimentary history and to further the understanding of the processes driving Earth’s physical and biological evolution. Theme 1: Geodynamic, tectonic, and paleoclimatic evolution of the continents and their margins: implications for ancient depositional systems. Theme 2: Ocean-atmospheric controls on surface processes: evolution of life, landscapes, and the sedimentary record. There have been a diverse set of topical sessions proposed by the community to which your abstract may be related, however, if your presentation does not fit within one of the topical sessions, the required keywords will allow the program committee to create additional topical sessions. View the list of proposed ISGC sessions or download the list here: https://buff.ly/3Qa3BdW Abstract Submission Submit abstracts online at https://buff.ly/3s3dfHp If you cannot submit an abstract online, please contact Michele Tomlinson (mtomlinson at sepm dot org)
