Record-high forecasts no longer capture the attention they once did as they have become the status quo. Week after week, we seemingly set a new record for heat in various parts of the U.S. and beyond. In fact, just last week, Monday, July 22, 2024 set the official record for the hottest day on record. As a follow-up to #HeatActionDay earlier this summer, it is important to continue to raise awareness of heat risks and offer reminders of how to stay safe in the dog days of summer with extreme temperatures at play. I worked with Sentinel to place health insurance for a small client. Sentinel's customer service and follow up are outstanding. Sentinel has been in the risk management business for a while, but it has expanded into employee benefits over the last several years. ✨ Our #employeespotlight for July is Shanna McIver! As an Account Specialist on our Employee Benefits team, Shanna is known for her exceptional attention to detail and her ability to ensure that every client receives personalized and efficient service. How did you get started at Sentinel? "I was actually working in a contract position with one of Sentinel’s Partners and the contract was coming to an end and the CFO of that company reached out to Jim to see about a permanent placement for me in the firm with Sentinel. As a reminder, I had a legal background and had no experience in the insurance industry however, I decided to just give it a shot to see if I was a good fit. Jim was very convinced I’d do great!" Share a day in the life as an Account Specialist? "A day in the life as an Account Specialist varies. I am very hands on with my clients, so I spend time scrubbing through emails and making sure I have been responsive with their service needs, requests, questions, and concerns. In my time here, I have developed good relationships with them, so I try to be very thorough. After that, it honestly can go a million ways from prepping for renewals, meeting with clients or prospects alongside the Client Executives, and/or preparing any materials needed to assist in the establishment or maintenance of their relationship with us. Overall, a busy fulfilling day." How would you describe the culture at Sentinel? "I would describe the culture as very positive. I absolutely enjoy how interactive we all are with each other within the workplace. I believe that when one or many people set the tone for everything the team does, it affects our engagement and how productive we are. In the Employee Benefits department, we all have a very positive tone that directly affects everyone there, so I think that makes it easier to come into the office and pour more into our culture daily. Our values and practices guide our team every day." What advice would you offer to others considering a career in the employee benefits industry? "I encourage anyone to do what they feel is best for them. I feel it is a great career opportunity and learning experience if you are out of industry. It appears to be an industry you just sort of fall into and not plan into. Sometimes the unexpected is the most rewarding." Interested in joining our team?
