This week marked the incredible start of our Illumina SD2 High School Scholars Summer Internship Program! 🎉 Our talented scholars dove into a week filled with enriching experiences, kicking off with insightful sessions from industry professionals on financial literacy, personal branding, and professionalism, and exploring their unique strengths through the CliftonStrengths Finder. 💼✨ The week ended in a hike at Torrey Pines, where our scholars had the chance to decompress and build deeper connections with their peers. 🥾🌲 We’re so proud of the growth and camaraderie already blossoming and can’t wait for what next week holds! Meet Trudie Jackson, a Two-Spirit Navajo woman dedicated to collaborating with doctors and medical professionals to improve healthcare for queer Native Americans, especially when it comes to HIV/AIDS. On top of her advocacy work, Trudie is breaking barriers left and right- in 2018, she became the first transgender woman to run for president of the Navajo Nation. Our SD2 Fellows had an incredible opportunity to visit Solar Turbines, where they received an overview of the company and its global operations. The highlight of our trip was a career panel with engineers, followed by a fascinating tour that allowed them to get up close and personal with the powerful gas turbines. Last Friday, SD2 Fellows and Scholars had the incredible opportunity to visit Deloitte's One Paseo office during Deloitte’s Annual Day of Service, Impact Day. They engaged in a dynamic workshop, participated in speed networking, and received an insightful overview of Deloitte and its diverse career opportunities. The highlight was exploring business chemistry profiles and gaining a deeper understanding of business dynamics.
