🌟 On Wednesday, WIN was excited to welcome Kirsten Grado, Adriana M., Bridget Fahey, and Nancy Brandt from CREW Silicon Valley to learn about the commercial real estate and finance industries. 🌆 The event featured a Q&A speaker panel where students heard about important trends in these industries, such as the impacts of AI and working from home. Last week, Women in Investment hosted our second Annual Dinner, based on the theme “Women’s Unique Assets in Investing!” 💵📈 Attendees got the chance to learn about venture capital and finance opportunities from our panelists Athena Shea, Máire P. Walsh, Ila B Corcoran, and Lara Banks. These panelists represented industries ranging from real estate to healthcare, providing us with insights into diverse careers within finance. 💫 One of our favorite points the speakers discussed was the wide range of possibilities within this field. You never know what opportunities might come knocking at your door, so it’s important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things! Last night, our founders had the privilege of attending the SCU Women in Investment Annual Dinner, and what an inspiring evening it was! Yesterday, WIN was delighted to host Brian Kahmar and Julia Racioppo from University Credit Union! They offered an overview of what credit is and what a credit score entails, discussed the different credit bureaus, explained what a credit report includes, and more. Brian and Julia highlighted the importance of credit, emphasizing its impact on crucial aspects of life such as renting or buying a home, job opportunities, loan approvals, credit card access, and even factors like car insurance rates and cell phone plans. Yesterday, WIN was excited to welcome back Emilia Gonzalez from Northwestern Mutual, who brought along special guests Natalie Le and Carley Leffel to discuss financial goals about the future and how to overcome challenges related to them.⚡ A key takeaway from their presentation is the importance of knowing what you want in life and how long it will take to achieve it. This not only brings your goals into focus but also helps you plan for success. If your current spending doesn’t align, you can look for ways to adjust. For example, you can follow the 20/60/20 saving rule: 20% of your income is allocated towards savings and investments, 60% to essential expenses, and 20% to discretionary purchases. However, you should also look out for yourself in case of emergencies. Having an emergency fund available creates a short term safety net that can be vital when facing unexpected life challenges. It is recommended to have six months’ worth of living expenses in an easily accessible account. Knowing all this, you’ll have a head start in your saving journey!
