SNIA SCSI Trade Association Forum (STA) and the INCITS/SCSI standards organization announce significant advancements in data storage technology with the launch of #24G+ SAS (#Serial Attached SCSI). This step represents multiple years of contributions from STA and T10 member companies, working cooperatively to expand the SAS specification for substantial industry benefit. Read the full release here: https://lnkd.in/ee5Z7Vs9 “24G+ SAS is a big step forward for our industry and continues to demonstrate the value of SAS technology in the broader scope of data storage. These key features span hard disk drives and SSDs and benefit hyperscalers, as well as traditional servers and storage,” said Cameron Brett, Chair, SNIA SCSI Trade Association Forum (STA) Board of Directors. “SAS and SCSI have been around for more than 30 years, delivering high performance, reliability, and scalability to data centers, and 24G+ SAS continues this taking data storage to the next level.” #datastorage #SAS #HDDs #SSDs #SCSI

#SAS in Space! Those of you who saw Mark R. Fernandez, Ph.D. speak at FMS: Future of Memory and Storage will remember this fascinating story, here's more:
Just now back from an exciting week at Kennedy Space Center! Saw the NG-20 launch on a beautiful day. Clear skies. Cool temperatures. I’ve witnessed all of the Spaceborne Computer launches and it NEVER gets old. This one was spectacular! The actual launch is silent. This is strange to many first timers. We see the rocket lift off, clear the tower and travel several rocket lengths up in the sky before we hear the roar of launch and feel the heat and wind. Following the plume of white rocket engine smoke, we next see the SpaceX Falcon 9 engines back down just a bit for Max-Q, then return to full thrust. The rocket is then lost for a minute or so following MECO, Main Engine Cut Off. The clear blue sky is illuminated by the stage separation, with two small plumes of white. One for the first stage and one for the continuing second stage. Moments later we see the first stage “back burn”. The back burn orients the first stage to gracefully, silently fall back to Earth. We can no longer see the continuing rocket or the reusable first stage which is invisibly falling for a few minutes. Silent tension builds as all eyes scan the sky. Then the clear sky is lit up with the bright light of the landing burn. All of us point and holler! The first stage appears to hover majestically just above ground. Moments before touching back down to Earth, the landing gear magically appears. “It’s over.” many think. Claps and hollers and celebrations. It is then that we hear the sonic boom and the warm winds from the landing hit us. A rocket launch should be #1 on your bucket list. And remain there! NG-20 went on to successfully dock with the ISS. Spaceborne Computer is amongst the 8,000 pounds of cargo. Will keep you posted when we are unloaded, installed and operational. The first science experiments we will perform included one which will use federated learning (FL) to continuously keep an AI model updated and in sync; and our established STEM outreach supporting high school student computer coding competitions. P.S. The journey is in orbit… #SpaceborneComputer #EdgeComputing #NASA #ISSNationalLab #SpaceX #NG20 #ISS
