Who knew after my first year teaching as a substitute teacher that I would be recommended and have my hard work acknowledged. I want to give special thanks to Scoot Education for providing me the employment opportunity to teach when many employers want prior teaching experience. The chance and opportunity planted a seed to make a positive impact on the schools I worked at this academic year. I know there has been negative stigma about substitute teachers. During a period of teacher shortages, we do make a difference and impact the lives of our students whether we are there day to day or long-term. My compassion and dedicatation to make learning meaningful and engaging makes a difference. I truly hope one day a college will notice that I am a valuable instructor for sociology or education to help teach and train the skills our future leaders and productive members of society to make a positive difference in the world.

Heidi Broker, a Scoot educator in Modesto, was a finalist for the Team Community Challenge sponsored by Modesto Junior College and Solve Community Challenges. As a result, Heidi and her team won $2,500! 🏆 Heidi has worked in a long-term role at Aspire University Charter School since January 2024. To support the school community, Heidi and her team donated $1,000 of the winnings to the Aspire Public Schools network. 📚🏫 Heidi also made a sizable donation to "It Takes a Village", a nonprofit in Modesto focused on supporting students who are unhoused. Heidi was inspired by students she supports at her school and we want to celebrate Heidi for giving back to her community! 🌟👏 #modestoteachers
