In pre-gaming a minor personal milestone, my wife single-handedly curated a food crawl over the weekend that nearly rivaled those of my friends 🍔🍟🍕🎙 David "Rev" Ciancio and 🍽️Zack Oates🍕. We hit every station of the cross in terms of Chicago street food. Vito N Nick's Tavern Style Pizza! Birreria Zaragoza (incredible goat tacos & consumme!). Ramen-dogs from Stick-It! Johnnie's Italian Beef! Pardon me while I nap for 12 days. Oh, and loving the new bags from Go Get Em Tiger... congrats Elena Ceridono and team! #chicago #chicagofood #restaurants #restauranttech #pizza #coffee

National Donut Day! Am I the only one not partaking? I'm allowed a total of about 12 donuts a year, because I married up and need to stay on top of my game. When I _do_ indulge, however, here are some of my favorites: 1) OAK PARK FARMERS' MARKET: Every Saturday from Memorial Day through October, you can line up for fresh made cake donuts that benefit a different charity each weekend. No frills, just deep fried goodness: Plain, Cinnamon, and Powdered Sugar, which frankly will have you looking like a Scarface outtake. We walk a mile plus each way to get them on Memorial Day Weekend: that cancels the calories, right? 2) https://enjoybrite.com/ the bakery sibling of Chicago's superior Metric Coffee Co. They absolutely crush it with such flavors as yuzu and blackberry integrated into these outstanding yeast donuts. I take them to band practice on Sunday afternoons occasionally. 3) 7/11 GLAZED DONUTS: One of my fondest memories of child-rearin' is how the younger, quieter one would always be magically ready for a ride to school a few minutes early: she'd factored in the time it would take to stop at 7/11 and take advantage of the BOGO on glazed donuts. They are fresh and still warm at 7:48am. Light as a feather, ridiculously sweet, and synonymous with watching kids approaching growing up with the kind of bad decisions that won't exactly haunt us for the rest of our lives, but instead are gentle reminders of how we must navigate the freedoms of adulthood carefully : ) #nationaldonutday

  • 🚀 Science on Call is Rocking the Customer Satisfaction Charts! 🚀 We just blew our OWN minds and hit a 98% customer satisfaction rating this past March! That's right, we smashed our goal of 90% like it was one of PLNT Burger's Spicy Chik'n Sandwiches (🤤) Perfection is always a moving goalpost, so we make sure to set our targets high to give something for our team to strive for. We're also about living our values and tearing down walls while we're at it. Here's a little peek behind the curtain of how we do that: 🤟 Be Human: We get it. Behind every ticket is a real person with real needs. That's why we don't just churn out responses; we connect, we empathize, and we make sure every customer feels like a VIP at our gig. 🛑 Own Your Limits: We're not afraid to admit when we're not perfect. News flash (hopefully to no one), but stuff breaks, especially within restaurant tech. But we don't stop there. We own it, we learn from it, and we build it into our system to not make the same mistake twice.   💡 Seek Solutions: Problems? Bring 'em on! We thrive on challenges like they're the hottest beef in town. We don't just sit around; we kick down doors, we innovate, and we find solutions like nobody's business. 📈 Support Growth Mindset: We're not your average Joes (sloppy or otherwise.) We're the nerds who know that learning never stops. We're always pushing boundaries, trying new things, and growing – because that's how we roll. And check this out: 85% of the issues we tackled in March? One-touch resolutions, baby! Talk about efficiency. Plus, our response times? Faster than  "Ace of Spades" on 45rpm! Massive props to Francesca A. and the whole team for rocking it hard and making March one for the record books. Let's keep shredding, keep pushing, and keep blowing minds together!  #CustomerSatisfaction #RockOn #CompanyValues #AuthenticCustomerService #ScienceClub

  • With restaurant tech, customer support can leave a lot to be desired (sorry, but it's true!) Even the best tech solutions can leave operators at best frustrated, and at worst, disruptive to customers, employees and your bottom line. Check out our latest article on where we see support mishaps show up in your operations, and things to consider as you evaluate new vendors for your tech stack! #RestaurantTech #UtilityChallenges #ChaosControl #RestaurantOperators #ScienceClub

UPDATE: thanks to all of you for the recs… looks like Green Street Smoke Meats FTW!! Chicago & Restaurant Friends! What are some places in Fulton Market that you feel deliver a great casual dining experience, somethign akin to a sports bar or even family restaurant? My go-to is probably Kuma's Corner but I'd love to get your opinions on other places with that kind of energy. Heavy metal is not a requirement but it is important to me.

Who is someone who you interacted with for a brief time but had an outsized and lasting impact on your organization? I hope there are many! For me, one of those people has been Mark Roddy. While we were gearing up to raise our seed round, we were excited about how we'd leverage machine intelligence and automation in our product. But we had no idea how we'd execute. One of our investors heard me talk through this struggle, and sent me an email. "Saw this guy on twitter: he seems like someone who could help." The investor didn't even know Mark, but something Mark had said about MI/AI had resonated, so I reached out. Mark first opened our eyes to the possibilities of what we could do, and how we'd transform a tech-enabled services company into a pure SaaS product. But more importantly, he coached the founders toward reaching a unified vision of not only what we could do, but how we would do it. Mark has done this for lots of companies. If you are looking for that spark to propel your vision and execution-- and not just be another company wrapping ChatGPT around your services product-- I highly recommend reaching out to Mark and spending some time with him.

  • Hello fellow food nerds! We came, we learned, we laughed, we pickleballed. Below is the Science On Call: Tech Support for Restaurants recap of the 2024 Restaurant Leadership Conference. Here are some of the top insights we observed at this week's conference: 1. Embracing Authenticity: One prevailing theme was the importance of authenticity within restaurant marketing, operations & partnerships. Consumers crave genuine experiences and connections with brands. Restaurant operators can capitalize on this trend by staying true to their values, engaging with customers authentically, and showcasing their unique brand story. It's not a time to play it safe by emulating other brands; know thyself and your authenticity will shine through in your marketing strategy, innovation & recruiting. 2. Simplifying Operations: Another prominent topic discussed was the need to simplify operations in an increasingly complex industry landscape. Streamlining processes, leveraging technology for efficiency gains, and optimizing supply chain logistics were hot topics among industry leaders. By simplifying things like your tech stack, restaurant operators can reduce costs, improve productivity, and enhance the overall guest experience. Bonus is if you start to offload services (cough, like tech support!) your teams & leadership will be able to focus on the priorities and things you do best. 3. Evolution in the Post-2020 Age: The rapid evolution of technology continues to shape the restaurant industry. From voice ordering to AI-powered analytics and personalized marketing; technology is revolutionizing how restaurants operate and interact with customers. Embracing digital innovation is essential for staying competitive in today's market; but only when it makes sense for your brand and customer experience. Shout-out to THE Martha Stewart who shared the importance of evolving your brand authentically during her exciting keynote address. Key Takeaways for Restaurant Operators: - The new Marketing process has evolved from a funnel to a flywheel. Prioritize authenticity in your brand messaging and customer interactions to force your channels to work harder, together. -"Wearing Many Hats" means your team, and sometimes highly-skilled leaders, are spending their hours on operational minutia. Consider that there may be opportunities to alleviate or offload repetitive tasks that can be automated by a variety of vendors in the space. - Brands, Operators, Leaders & Vendors can and should evolve (bonus is it's not too scary to try something new!) The more we come together in forums like this, the more we all learn, improve & continue to elevate the industry we all love. #RestaurantLeadership #IndustryInsights #Authenticity #OperationsSimplified #DigitalInnovation #RestaurantTechnology #FutureOfFood #HospitalityIndustry #ScienceOnCall We'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences from the conference. Share your insights in the comments below!
