Special thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday to officially open the new water landing at Island Park in Schuylkill Haven. The new landing showcases our mission to connect people and communities to the Schuylkill River. We partnered with Schuylkill Haven Borough, and The Schuylkill Haven Island Park Committee to design improvements to the landing including a concrete ramp and paved approach path, a circular gravel drive to provide a drop-off area for boats and equipment, handicapped parking spaces, water trail signage, and improved landscaping. The new landing will accommodate more boating and fishing; and provide an accessible path to the river’s edge. The cost of the project totaled approximately $150,000. Funding for construction came from a PA Fish and Boat Commission Boating Facilities Grant, the Wm Penn Foundation, and DCNR. Schuylkill Haven Borough, Schuylkill River Greenways and the National Park System contributed to the development of this landing.

We connect people and communities to the Schuylkill River's culture and heritage with the SRT as our signature project
About us
The Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area celebrates the Schuylkill River watershed as one of America’s most significant cultural, historical and industrial regions. The boundaries of SRG cover the Schuylkill River watershed in Schuylkill, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. This region is nationally significant for the role that its people, places, and events played in the American, Industrial, and Environmental Revolutions. Schuylkill River Greenways is working to bring the economic and health benefits of this “hidden river” to communities throughout the watershed through recreational use and the development of businesses along its route. At Schuylkill River Greenways, we work closely with all our trail partners to keep every mile of trail, from Philadelphia to Schuylkill County, safe and accessible. SRG works to promote connections to the river, with the Schuylkill River Trail as our most important tool and project. We support all the communities and activities along the 120 mile trail, and we are working to complete the final sections. There are currently about 75 completed miles of the Schuylkill River Trail in sections, including 30-plus miles between Philadelphia and Parker Ford. The trail breaks off in Parker Ford and picks up again in Pottstown where it continues for about 20 miles to Reading. From there, cyclists can follow a 20-mile signed on-road route just shy of Hamburg. In Hamburg, trail users can access a scenic seven-mile stretch to Auburn in Schuylkill County. The trail is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, exercise or commute. All of this work is made possible through the generosity of our members, donors, and corporate sponsors. We also receive major funding for trail construction from government and private grants.

Our organization was so fortunate to have been chosen to work with the volunteer team from Compass Pro Bono to get the process of our strategic planning started. Their volunteers worked with staff, board, and supporters to help craft a template for us to use as we plan the future at SRG. Of course, we thanked them the best way we know how-with a fun paddle on our beloved Schuylkill River! Our sincere thanks to the whole team at Compass Pro Bono!

Working with the Compass Pro Bono team has been an amazing experience! After all their hard work with us-we just HAD to give them a personal experience on the river.
I always feared being on the BIG Schuylkill River in a SMALL kayak until Schuylkill River Greenways, NHA led by Elaine Paul Schaefer received a #strategic alignment project as a Compass Pro Bono client. My magical Compass client field trip helped me conquer my fear and experience an adventure of a lifetime with SRG staff, board members and our amazing Compass consulting team members. If you're a #nonprofit in #GreaterPhiladelphia or know of an organization that can benefit from #free strategic consulting with a team of top tier business professionals like Dana Bear, River Higbee, Dev Misra, David Othmer, Frank Perras, Winslow Roche, Viktorya Stebenkova, Josh Sterling, Jillian Taylor, and Deborah Wong then I invite you to partner with Compass Pro Bono for a capacity building adventure! Applications opens July 8th.

Last night, we gathered at Montgomery County Community College's North Hall of the Pottstown Campus to celebrate our watershed. Our art exhibit, "Scenes of the Schuylkill" showcases both the beauty of the watershed and the breadth and depth of talent of the artists who submit work. The reception also gave us a chance to thank the people and organizations who have made significant impact this past year. We were so happy to recognize The Rich Family of Companies (Reading Anthracite Company) as our Corporate Parter, Muhlenberg Township as our Community Partner, and Chris Cleary as our volunteer of the year. Of course, our sponsors help make all of our events possible, so we would also like to thank Constellation, Pennsylvania American Water, Aramark, The Lewis Group, Quandel Construction Group, LLC, The Justi Group, Tompkins Community Bank, Chester County Ciders, and The Aranda Group for sponsoring last night's festivities and the work we do all year.
