With Summer in full swing, the #SuffolkCounty Treatment Program brought clients outdoors for a nature walk at Heckscher Park. The event was the first in the program's "Samaritans Without Limits" schedule of peer-run, sober activities. Future meet-ups will take clients to a soup kitchen, historic park, ecology center, and in-house poetry and crafting workshop. The Bronx has the highest rates of overdose deaths in the city. With Office of The Bronx Borough President Hon. Vanessa L. Gibson, MPA (She, Her, Hers, Ella), State Senator Nathália Fernandes 🏳️⚧️, and Assemblymember Landon Dais, Esq., we honored the hundreds of lives lost and thousands impacted by the overdose crisis. One of our peers at PARC Bronx, Jesus Hernandez, shared about the essential outreach work he does to connect people to harm reduction resources, mental health services, and more: "If I reach one person, it’s a beautiful day. I don’t do this for the money or reputation; I do it because I truly believe I was put on this earth to help people.” Read more in the Bronx Times: https://lnkd.in/eHYxuZzx
