  • Happy Indepdence Day! We are thankful for the freedoms we have in this nation to pursue our goals. “…And that as free and independent states, they have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things which independent states may have right to. And for the support of this declaration, with the firm reliance on the protection of divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.” - The Declaration of Indepdendence #logistics #supplychain #freedom #america

  • "Chick-fil-A employee and TikTok user @mirithesiren was told last week by the chain’s PR team that she could no longer post her popular reviews on TikTok about its menu options because it was against company rules.  After the incident, Miri said she wanted to collaborate with other brands. Less than a week later, she sealed a deal with Shake Shake... By Monday afternoon, the video had been viewed more than 865,500 times." WHAT NOT TO DO IN BRANDING: 🔇 Silence the voices of your people (aka your brand ambassadors and champions) 🔇 Discourage personal brand growth 🔇 Murder a free (and highly successful) marketing strategy WHAT TO DO IN BRANDING: 🔊 Amplify the voices of your people (champion your brand ambassadors, they can have much farther of a reach than you can alone company marketing teams) 🔊 Encourage personal brand growth, and even offer resources to aid your people who embrace it 🔊 Take advantage of free and successful marketing opportunities that come your way This is the new era of branding. In this instance, what do we think Chick-fil-A should have done? 📲 Called up Miri and offered her a paid brand deal to collaborate with the PR team and continue to make the content she was making. Don't be AFRAID of your people and the power their brands can hold. Unlock their potential and invest in it! Chick-fil-A's loss was Shake Shacks gain, they fed their competition. Strong brands are only difficult to retain when they are not made to feel supported and valued. Samantha Jones Consulting is not a marketing consultancy, but we are a brand consultancy. If you are curious what that means, reach out to us! #branding #revenue #socialmedia #tiktok #brand #sales #competition

  • Here is an example of an email recently sent to a shipper transportation decision maker from a sales executive at a carrier. We have removed only identifying information: 👨💻 Good Morning, My my name is _________ with ________, and I just called in and left you a voicemail and wanted to follow up on the previous emails below and make sure they had been received. Please let me know if you could benefit from our services and if you are interested or not. Again we are an Asset Based Carrier based out of ____________ that has been running for ___ years strong. We have our own fleet and are looking to expand and in area's with companies like yours. I would love the opportunity to discuss this further with you and show you the ways that we could help alleviate the issues you may be having with moving your freight safely and on time. Please feel free to call me or reply to this email with a good time for us to talk. The Problems: ❌ No name, general address: shows lack of effort and intentionality, and using a person's name is one of the simplest forms of respectful address ❌ The use of some of our "no-no phrases" like "just" and "wanted to follow up on the previous emails.." which make sellers sound desperate, pitchy and untrustworthy among other things ❌ Do not ask someone to give you something you have not earned. "Please let me know..." in this use case is premature and lazy, asking your prospect to do their homework on you and give you an answer. ❌ The word "again"... just trust us it's not the right attitude here ❌ "In areas with companies like yours" likely a clear copy and paste paragraph that had no customization to this shippers' industry or company and again shows lack of intentionality and purpose ❌ "show you the ways we could help alleviate the issues you may be having with moving your freight safely and on time" In polite words, this is tone deaf. This was sent in the last few months. Where shippers have experienced nearly perfect OTP and OTD KPIs. If we were this shipper, we would be insulted that this carrier thinks our operations are struggling with issues we cannot alleviate ❌ We don't know a single shipper who ever needed a sales person's permission to call them or email them back "Please feel free to call me or reply to this email" is very unnecessary and misses an opportunity for a stronger closing and next step. We provided ONE possible example of a re-write of this email in the comments, check it out and let us know what else you would add to this email scenario! Here at Samantha Jones Consulting we take meticulous care in helping our clients to craft the best outreaches, and train their sellers to be more intentional in the words they choose, the tone they take, and the ways they communicate. • Logistics & Transportation Cold Calling 101 What is the purpose of a cold call? ❌To sell your services ❌To sell your brand  ❌To make a new friend ✅To move the prospect to the next step in your sales process, which is an introductory meeting. When someone realizes they answered a cold call they start to think: ➡️Who is this? ➡️Do I care? ➡️Is there a reason I should not hang up now? And they won’t give you long before they decide the answer to those questions. There are two very important parts of the beginning of a cold call: WHAT you say  HOW you say it Don’t make them have to guess or ask questions, state your purpose clearly.  “Hi Joe, this is Jane with XYZ Carrier, I saw that your company ________ and since we ________ I wanted to see if you had some time to connect next week for a virtual meeting to get better introduced. Is that something you would be open to?” Speak confidently, loud enough you are easy to hear and understand, and with a tone of voice that means you are easy to talk to and engaged. From our experience, it’s more the HOW you say it that seller struggle with. Nerves paired with a lack of confidence get to a lot of sellers, and people find it difficult to trust someone who does not even seem sure of what they are saying. How can you fix this? PRACTICE. Rehearse your opening line/lines until you can relay them confidently and calmly.  RESEARCH. Know why you are calling, why you want to work with them and why you are a great fit, so that you are confident in your purpose. #coldcalling #sales #selling #revops #logistics #transportation #supplychain

  • Our team has been growing! There are actually several people who help to service our clients as we help them develop and execute sales and brand strategies! We want to take some time to introduce them to you over the coming months! We will start with the one who started this all up, our owner Samantha Jones! Samantha has been in logistics and transportation since January of 2019. She has held a variety of roles, but all of them were customer facing roles working to acquire new revenue and clients for transportation companies. After nearly 5 years of developing her sales and brand skills while assisting other companies in their growth efforts, Samantha founded Samantha Jones Consulting to help other transportation solutions providers transform their sustainable revenue acquisition strategies! ❔About Samantha: What is your favorite thing about transportation and logistics? “You can NEVER get bored! I ensure I stay engaged in roles that are constantly fast paced and exciting, and never dull or repetitive! This suits my personality well and helps me find more fulfillment in my day to day work!” What did you want to be when you were growing up? “I wanted to work in international community development in Spanish speaking countries. I studied college level Spanish for 7 years and wanted to work abroad and help design community infrastructures that would improve the livelihoods and quality of life for the people of the communities!” What’s a fun fact about you? I am learning to golf and really loving the process! I’ve never loved something I’m so bad at as much as golf! If you are ever in KC and like to golf let’s see if we can make some time!

  • We had a great time at the Broker Carrier Summit inaugural Post and Pray Golf Tournament! So glad we were able to sponsor and be a part of this fun event! Elizabeth Arnold held down our booth on the 2nd hole tee box while Samantha Jones tired (and epically failed) to bring home some hardware. All of the golfers made it out with some awesome SJ Consulting custome golf balls and koozies. And there will be one lucky winner of our $200 Golf Galaxy gift card raffle! Samantha Jones and Elizabeth Arnold will be at the conference today and tomorrow so be sure to say hello and get connected, and be sure not to miss Samantha Jones and Corey Ritenour take the stage to talk about “What Shippers Want” #logistics #trucking #sales #networking #golf
