As we observe Juneteenth, we celebrate past victories, recognize present challenges, and commit to a more equitable future for all, especially Black Americans. Juneteenth is a day to reflect on the struggles and resilience of African Americans and to celebrate their enduring spirit and contributions. It also serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality, justice, and the dismantling of systemic racism. Welcome to the Sage Health Strategy Top Five for June 2024 As we step into June, we find Chicago buzzing with activities, from biking on the lakefront and outdoor dining to farmers markets and vibrant city festivals. Wherever you may be, we hope you will embrace the warmth, sunshine, and new opportunities this month brings. We wish you a fantastic start to summer. We are pleased to present our Top Five picks for June, leading with off a sobering article about how childbirth puts many women and families on the path of medical debt. We move on to a thoughtful opinion piece about improving the model for dually edible Medicare-Medicaid beneficiaries. We also highlight recent Congressional investments in Medicaid-funded behavioral health services and share an outlook for health systems that looks ahead to the remainder of 2024. To round out our June selections, we examine the demise of Walmart Health and what it could mean for other industry disrupters. https://lnkd.in/gS_P8DsR

We are proud to work on this initiative along side fearless leaders who work tirelessly to support communities impacted by health disparities. Thank you Katie McKillen and Evolent for collaborating on the Health, Hope, and Healing initiative and your commitment to support the community. #Evolent #evolentimpact #sagehealthstrategy #health #cancer #healthdisparities #healthequity #cancerprevention #communityengagement
Black women have a 4% lower incidence rate of breast cancer than White women, but a 40% higher breast cancer death rate. Communities in the South and West sides of Chicago (areas that are predominantly African American and Latino) face Breast Cancer Mortality rates as high as 1.5 times the national rate. This weekend, we met with more than 70 of the most influential women faith leaders, first ladies, and key stakeholders to empower them as change agents to reduce health disparities in Chicagoland. Thank you for cascading the importance of cancer prevention and awareness to reduce disparities in healthcare. #Evolent #diversityequityandinclusion #EvolentImpact

May is starting with some wonderful spring weather here in Chicago and it's putting some pep in our step! We are excited to be moving into a new office suite to accommodate our growing team, as well as continuing to see our clients' ongoing success. Here's hoping you have something you'll be celebrating this month, be it moms, graduates or colorful spring tulips. In between celebrations, we hope you will check out one or two of our Top Five picks for May. We kick off with a compelling piece advocating for Medicaid innovation by investing in the 1115 waiver program and follow that with an eye-opening report from HHS' OIG on the shortage of behavioral health providers for Medicaid and Medicare enrollees. We have included an interesting analysis on price transparency's potential to shift consumer behavior in the industy and a recent Press Ganey download on patient perceptions of health care safety. We round off this month with a great local success story that shows how healthy food can truly be the best medicine. https://lnkd.in/g3A9Xqkn

Did you know that in Chicago, black women and men face significantly higher rates of cancer mortality compared to other racial groups? At our recent collaboration with client extraordinaire Evolent, we delved into these disparities and explored ways to improve cancer screening rates and health outcomes for black women and their families. With insightful talks from Dr. Carla Da Goia Pinto, MD. MPH and Terra Wonsettler, Pharm.D., MBA, we're committed to making a difference in our community. Stay tuned as we continue our efforts to combat health disparities and promote equity in healthcare! #HealthEquity #CancerAwareness #ChicagoHealth #CommunityImpact
