Congratulations to Maria Rodriguez, Hardey 1 Lead Teacher and Sacred Heart alumna on her graduation from the inaugural cohort of this two-year leadership program. This is a wonderful accolade and shows your outstanding commitment to your vocation as a teacher and to the greater Network. Thank you also to Jill Renn, Hardey 2 Lead Teacher for generously sharing your expertise by acting as a mentor to this cohort. We are excited to announce that Kyra Kauffman, Hardey 4 Lead Teacher has been selected as an Aspiring Leader in the second cohort, and Joanne Shemiot, Head of Student Life has been chosen as a mentor. Thank you to Dan Gargano, Head of Middle School for working on the Planning Committee for the past two years and to Dr. Jane Steinfels, Director of Formation to Mission and Campus Ministry and Sheridan Road graduate for her role as Chair of the Planning Committee. As we reflect upon a year of building community, we are thankful for these opportunities to learn and grow alongside the other Sacred Heart schools across the United States and Canada. We thank you all for the selfless work you do on behalf of Sheridan Road and the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.

Thank you Care for Real for working with our Preschool students and helping them experience giving in action. We are proud to call you a Community Partner. Our students learn early about Sacred Heart Goal III: a social awareness that impels to action. These type of activities are wonderful opportunities to put that goal into practice.

Service learning is a part of our whole community's identity. Last week, our parents gathered for a 'Parent Volunteer Day' at Cradles to Crayons Chicago. Informed by the mission and values, Sacred Heart commits to "a social awareness that impels to action." Opportunities like these allow us to live out these values in practice. Thank you to parent Stacy Jakobe for organizing this activity, our wonderful volunteers, and to Cradles to Crayons Chicago for providing this opportunity to partner again.

Wow, our athletes are FAST!! This past Friday and Saturday, our qualifying track athletes participated in the State Championship in Peoria, to great success. Please congratulate the following for these outstanding results: Connor B. (H8) is a State Champion!! He ran an impressive 4:53 mile to clinch 1st place. He also took 3rd in the 800m. We are thrilled to be home to a State Champion for the second year in a row, and Connor is the first SHS Hardey student to do it! Our 8th Grade Girls team placed 3rd in the 4x4 relay, shattering their best time by an impressive 11 seconds! Well done to Sam B., Olivia B., Greta S. and Vivi S., who each played an important role in the team's success. Olivia and Greta also competed in the 1600m and 800m, both medaling in both events, an incredible feat! Greta took 3rd and 2nd respectively, with Olivia going 8th and 5th. With the points secured by all of our 8th grade girls, we also placed 4th as a Team in Illinois! Congratulations also go to Hayley B. (A5) and Jack S. (H6) for qualifying for their first state meet and competing as some of the youngest in their division. We can't wait to see what the future holds for them! None of this would be possible without our Varsity Track Coaches (Jake Gehman, Sara Spratt, Liz Piro), whose hard work and development of the team was evident all season long. These wins are a testament to your commitment. - Thank you! A big round of applause for these State Athletes and a huge shout-out to our stellar 8th graders. You truly exemplify Goal IV: personal growth - and especially growing in courage and confidence and cultivating strengths. Well done all! #SHSSheridanRd #WeAreSHS

Thank you Ralph Shayne for sharing your book 'Hour of Need' with our Middle School students. Hearing the true story of resistance to Nazi rule during World War II in Denmark was truly inspiring - especially from the perspective of the young Mette, and told in such a beautiful and thoughtful way. These experiences are so important for our young students.

Energy abounds on Sheridan Road! Our 7th graders recently hosted an informative and entertaining Energy Fair for the younger Lower School students, bringing their creativity into play. We are grateful to The NEED Project (National Energy Education Development Project) whose mission is ‘Putting Energy into Education’ – via their ESP (Energizing Student Potential) program. Designed to bring STEM-focused activities and leadership into the classroom, this was a truly special opportunity. Thank you Maureen Engel, SHS Middle School Science Teacher, for pursuing this grant, and for bringing this practical experience to our students.
