Thank you, CBS 13 for covering our free summer meals program! SCUSD’s Nutrition Services Department is offering free breakfast and lunch at various schools and community sites throughout the summer. Free breakfast and lunch will be available June 24 – July 26, 2024. Select sites will be offering meals through August 2, 2024. All children 18 years-old and under can receive free meals, no paperwork necessary and enrollment is not required. The summer meal program is available Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch. SCUSD students, sign-up for a STEM program at Sacramento City College’s (SCC) Makerspace this Summer! SCC's intro-to-college summer maker camp provides hands-on experience with various tools, equipment, and technologies, allowing you to learn by doing. This practical approach can deepen your understanding of concepts and skills in fields like robotics, electronics, programming, and design. In just one week, you will collaborate and team up to make robots, solder, fabricate, program electronics, use the laser cutter, printers, fabric printers, and make all kinds of cool stuff, and keep it! You will learn about college life and career pathways, all the while having fun. Monday – Friday, July 22 thru July 26 Sacramento City College Makerspace (Bldg. MAKR 1) 3835 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95822 Free! All materials and supplies are included, and lunch is included every day! Space is limited, register by Friday, June 28. Starting this Fall, Sacramento New Technology High School is changing to: Sacramento New Technology EARLY COLLEGE High School or SNTECHS for short! SNTECHS is the ONLY state recognized Early College High School in our district. Students who attend SNTECHS will take college courses aimed at their personal college and career aspirations. This program allows students to earn their associates degree or career path certificates WITH their diplomas. The best part, going to college while attending SNTECHS is completely FREE! We are enrolling NOW for the 24-25 school year. To enroll, simply download the application on our school website: newtech.scusd.edu or stop by the office between 10am - 4pm Monday-Friday!

The 4th of July is quickly approaching, and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District wants to remind you that each year serious injuries, deaths and millions of dollars in property loss occur from fires sparked by fireworks. The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors adopted changes to the Sacramento County Code on April 9th to provide additional protections for our schools and parks, in addition to the American River Parkway. There is a $10,000 fine for using fireworks at schools, parks, and on the American River Parkway. Metro Fire has valuable information on safe use and disposal of fireworks, how to report dangerous fireworks, and 2024 public display locations, and where to drop off unwanted or dangerous illegal fireworks. Juneteenth commemorates the official end of slavery in the United States and the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas. Also known as Freedom Day, this is an important and deeply personal holiday for our community and truthfully acknowledges a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. In observance of Juneteenth, all district offices and facilities will be closed.

Congratulations to George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science basketball team who won the SCUSD Small High School Basketball Sports League Championship to be named League Champions of 2024!

End of Year Message from Superintendent Lisa Allen: Dear Sac City Unified Students, Staff, and Families, As we say goodbye to the 2023-24 school year, I want to congratulate our Sac City Unified community on all that we have accomplished together. It was an honor to stand with our principals and present diplomas to all of our graduates as they head off to the colleges, trade schools, and careers that await them. I wish to share my utmost appreciation for the important work you do in service to our families. Whether your contributions take place inside or outside the classroom, you are helping to create a safe, supportive and inspiring learning environment for our students each and every day. Personally, I wish to also thank you for the steadfast support and collaborative spirit with which you welcomed me in this first year as Superintendent. This was a remarkable year for the District in our quest to make our schools more equitable and inclusive led by the fine work of our award-winning facilities team. Miwok, Suy:u, and Umoja were renamed and rededicated to celebrate the diversity and history of the community we serve. The school communities at Kemble/Chavez, Nicholas, and Oak Ridge successfully adapted their way through the construction of new campuses. Those students and staff have just one more school year before their new state of the art campuses will open. I also feel an incredible amount of pride that we finally leveled the playing field for our student-athletes at Hiram Johnson and Burbank, with a new stadium and sports complex and swimming pool, respectively. These are exciting times for Sacramento City Unified and I am grateful for the privilege of leading this school district. Now, please get some well-earned rest over the summer. Be sure to take precious time for yourself and your family. The new academic year will be upon us even faster this August, and our staff will need to be re-energized and ready to serve and support our wonderful families.
