The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently rolled out a National Definition for Zero Emissions Buildings, which sets standards for energy efficiency, zero on-site emissions, and clean energy use. The effort aligns with the Biden Administration’s ambitious goal for a net-zero emissions-building portfolio by 2045. In tandem, the U.S. General Services Administration Office of Inspector General recently announced that it will invest $80 million in smart building technologies across 560 of its federal buildings, enhancing efficiency and sustainability with advanced meters, sensors, and HVAC controls. These initiatives pave the way for a greener, smarter future in building management.
