Empowering Kabale, Uganda’s most vulnerable populations through educational and economic opportunities
About us
Founded in January 2014, Rukundo International (RI) is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) in Uganda, and registered 501(c)3 with an all-volunteer staff in the United States. Rukundo works as a partner and advocate for Kyanamira, a small rural community in the Kabale District of Southwest Uganda. We focus primarily on women and children to help ensure the community will have the necessary resources to reach their full potential. Our projects are developed collaboratively with local government officials, community leaders, and the people of Kyanamira, considering sustainably as a critical element. Rukundo Preparatory School is the flagship program of Rukundo International. Our school provides primary education to over 100 children. Besides the school, Rukundo also runs five other programs in the community: Women’s Agricultural Co-op, Girls Empowerment Program, Scholarships, Boy’s Soccer Program, and a Community Center. RI assists orphans, financially distressed families, and at-risk youth to impact the needs of those living in extreme poverty, by giving them opportunities to succeed in school and life. Milestones: • 134 students enrolled at Rukundo Preparatory School. • 1,165 girls graduated from our Girl’s Empowerment Program with the knowledge of entrepreneurship and healthy choices. • Close to 3,000 Ugandans with access to safe water through installation of four water sources • 132 children engaged weekly in our Community Center programs. • 56 students receiving support through our Scholar’s Program. • 40 vulnerable boys “off the streets” mentored through our boy's soccer program. • 22 women participating in our Women's Agricultural Cooperative • Over 34,000 healthy meals served at Rukundo Preparatory School. • More than 51,000 pairs of used shoes collected and sent to developing countries through our partnership with Funds2Orgs. #DidYouKnow that schools in Uganda encourage students to complete workbooks during holiday breaks? Many times these "holiday packages" come with a fee that families can't prioritize, but at Rukundo we offer these packages to every student free of cost! We're so fortunate be able to do this as these workbooks help our students retain the material they've learned at school during long breaks. You can help us continue this important work by purchasing a workbook for a student today! Visit https://lnkd.in/gniNnFN3 to make a difference. ❤️

Meet Anitah T., a shining example of resilience from our Girls Empowerment Program (GEP)! 🎓 Anitah, a 2019 GEP graduate who's currently excelling at Ikumba Secondary School, received a piglet in December 2022 as part of our entrepreneurship initiative. 🐖 Through the skills learned in GEP, Anitah has navigated secondary school life with confidence, as she gained valuable lessons on peer pressure and reproductive health. What makes Anitah's story so inspiring is that the pig she received has given her a litter of 9 piglets. By the end of this month, Anitah will be passing on the gift by giving two piglets to other girls in her community. This act of generosity will enable them to start their own pig projects, offering them the same benefits Anitah has enjoyed, such as staying engaged and aquiring agricultural skills. 🌿🐷 Anitah's father couldn't be prouder. "Seeing my daughter succeed with her pig rearing project is a blessing. I am relieved knowing she can support herself with school requirements and personal needs," he shared. We are so proud of Anitah and of the continuous support the GEP provides. Together, we are empowering young girls to build brighter, self-sufficient futures, free from teen marriage and pregnancies. Let's keep this momentum going! Drop some encouragement for Anitah in the comments below! 💪❤️ #MondayMotivation #MotivationalMondays
