Ruby-Collins is pleased to announce that our team has been awarded the Lower Crane Creek Equalization Storage Facility contract for the City of Columbia! Located just east of the Broad River on the old Eau Claire Wastewater Treatment Facility property, this project is crucial for enhancing the region's water management infrastructure to meet future demands. This project will highlight our expertise in delivering complex and impactful projects, which includes an overflow diversion structure, tunnel under the railroad, wet weather pump station, and an equalization tank. Intern Spotlight ✨ Name: Parker Eason What school do you attend? I am going into my senior year at Georgia Southern University. How did you find your internship here at Ruby-Collins? I found out about Ruby Collins at the Georgia Southern career fair and handed them a resume. Then a couple of days later I got an email from them and that is when I started the interview process and thankfully got hired on as an intern! Why did you choose a major/internship in the construction industry? My family has a civil construction company back home and I grew up going to work with my Grandpa during the summer. I really enjoyed working there so when I got to college and found out about the construction management program I immediately knew that was the major for me. What do you do outside of school for fun? I really enjoy golfing right now even though I'm not very good. I also like hunting and going fishing. What is your favorite part of your internship so far? My favorite part so far has been meeting new people and learning what it all takes to get a job done. From seeing what you must do in the office to getting hands-on with the materials and putting it all together, it takes a lot more planning than I ever imagined. What was your childhood dream job? Intern Spotlight! ✨ Name: Michael Butler What school do you attend? I go to Georgia Southern University. How did you find your internship here at Ruby-Collins? I found Ruby by attending a fall career fair held at my school. Why did you choose a major/internship in the construction industry? I grew up around construction. With my dad being a welding engineer, I fell in love with being in the field and getting my hands dirty. What do you do outside of school for fun? I love to go to the gym, play basketball, and hang out with friends from school. What is your favorite part of your internship so far? So far, it has been meeting new people and working with such a diverse group of personalities. Jay Bright specifically has been an amazing mentor who I have been very grateful to be learning from. What was your childhood dream job? Since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a Mechanical Engineer. Any stories you want to share from your internship so far? This internship allowed me to climb into a clarifier! I'll just say, that the secondaries smell better than the primaries. I found Ruby-Collins at a Georgia Southern career fair! I spoke with them about their internship opportunities and what an intern would do at their company and applied. Why did you choose a major/internship in the construction industry? I chose a degree and path in construction because I love working with my hands in the field. What do you do outside of school for fun? I tend to like to stay in and watch TV, after being outside so much, it's nice to relax. What is your favorite part of your internship so far? It’s the amazing people that I get to work with, like Paul Dodd and his crew! What was your childhood dream job? I grew up wanting to be a basketball player until I enlisted in the Army and wanted to be an engineer. Anything else you would like to share with us? I found Ruby Collins at the GSU career fair, I handed them my resume and then started the interview process a few weeks later. Why did you choose a major/internship in the construction industry? I chose to do an internship in construction because I love to work with my hands. I also wanted to see and experience what other jobs there are outside of mechanical engineering to decide if I want to switch my major. What do you do outside of school for fun? I like cook, go hunting, fishing, driving around looking for new places, and practicing combative sports! What is your favorite part of your internship so far? My favorite part so far is having the opportunity to learn to drive the loader. They have let me slowly drive around the yard so I can get familiar with the machine.
