It’s a wrap! Fresh off the heels of the data-fueled frenzy at the Tableau Conference in San Diego, I'm excited to share some key takeaways: 1️⃣ 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝-𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: This year's conference was the biggest post-pandemic, with over 9,000 data enthusiasts gathering! Kudos to the Salesforce/Tableau team and the San Diego Convention Center for a fantastic event. 2️⃣ 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞: Attendees were hungry for time-saving solutions. Sessions on building dashboards faster and upskilling in Tableau were packed – a clear focus on improving workflows. 3️⃣ 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤: As an OG Tableau user since 2014, it was incredibly rewarding to see teams light up at our Rollstack demos. Saving hours or even days per week with Rollstack is music to their ears, and that impact is only growing! 4️⃣ 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Every major organization we met with has data analysts embedded within business functions, often aligned with the CFO or CRO. This reflects a key organizational focus on driving efficiency and ROI in the current context of liquidity. 5️⃣ 𝐋𝐋𝐌𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐮: Tableau is integrating LLMs into its workflows! Key use cases include faster dashboard creation (coming this summer) and data exploration with an improved "Ask Data" function. 6️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲: The people in the data community truly made the conference special. I loved catching up with Bradly, Oladimeji, Ross, Maha, Hozefa, Gaurav, Jefferson, Chenxuan, Ravi, Sai, Louis, Rahul, Mohsin, Michael, and Jane, to name just a few! #datafam #data24 #data #tableau

Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) are crucial to the success of any data-driven enterprise. They provide an opportunity to evaluate performance, align on strategy, and set goals based on data insights. Here are best practices designed to help elite data practitioners like yourself avoid the most common pitfalls of QBRs: 🎡 𝗥𝗲-𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹 Many fall into the trap of creating reports from scratch each quarter, a process that is both time-consuming and inefficient. By leveraging templates or standardized reports, organizations can ensure consistency and accuracy while significantly reducing preparation time. For example, one of our clients standardized their QBRs and saw a 70% reduction in preparation time, allowing their team to focus on strategic analysis and decision-making. 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝗧𝗶𝗽: Repeatability is the norm with Rollstack. Building your template on Rollstack takes less time than creating a one-off QBR. ✋ 𝗔𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 Ad hoc requests can disrupt the planned reporting workflow, often leading to incomplete or hurried QBRs. Applying first principles to these requests involves questioning the underlying goals, urgency, and strategic value before integrating them. This ensures that any additions are meaningful and aligned with the overall objectives of the QBR, maintaining its integrity and focus. 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝗧𝗶𝗽: A good QBR is 80% templatized and 20% ad hoc. Repeating the same metrics your audience is used to is more impactful in communicating your message. 📚 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 Lengthy QBRs can overwhelm stakeholders and dilute key messages. Consider applying Marie Kondo’s principles to your QBR cleanup: does each section spark strategic joy? Ensuring your QBRs are concise and data-driven makes them more engaging and easier to digest. 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝗧𝗶𝗽: Use the appendix to house any visualizations you're on the fence about keeping. 🤖 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Relying on manual data compilation is prone to errors and inefficiency. Automation is invaluable in gathering and processing data. For instance, organizations that automate their report-generation workflows with Rollstack often see a significant increase in productivity and a reduction in errors. 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝗧𝗶𝗽: Explore Rollstack to automate your report generation which will free up your team for more strategic work. ❔𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 Without clear objectives, QBRs can lose direction and effectiveness. Defining specific goals for each review session ensures the report remains focused and purposeful. A clear objective ties everything together, providing clarity and impact. Establishing these objectives at the outset helps maintain alignment and ensures that all data and insights presented serve a strategic purpose. Are you still working on your most recent QBR? Log in to your Rollstack account to generate it. If you're new to Rollstack, schedule a demo to learn more.

𝗪𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸! 😄 For all business operators who rely on data to make informed decisions, there has always been a disconnect between the tools designed for sharing data and the tools they feel comfortable using daily to share and discuss data. This is what we refer to as the Data Presentation Paradox. Whether in Data Analytics, Business Operations, Finance, or Customer Success, teams have been extracting data from dashboards to build stories and narratives. However, integrating this data into their everyday workflows and effectively sharing it remains a challenge. Our Reverse ETL friends at Hightouch and Census have done a great job addressing part of this puzzle by getting data into operational systems. At Rollstack, we're focused on solving another part: automating data driven slide decks and documents! 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁: 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Recognizing this gap, Rollstack introduced a new category in the modern data stack: Report Generation. Rollstack bridges this gap by directly connecting visualization tools to slide decks and documents, automating their creation and updates, and effectively solving the last mile problem of data presentation—from the creation to the distribution of data-driven reports. Today we decided to make a small update to this map of the Modern Data Stack! #data #stack #bi #ai

Beat the clock on client reporting with these expert tips! It's the start of a new month, and you know what that means... another mountain of client reports to tackle. But it doesn't have to be a painful climb. We've compiled a list of practical tips to help you scale your client reports effectively. 🗃️ 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 We've all been there, needing to combine data from many different sources into one centralized place. For many, dashboards represent the organization's source of truth. Making reliable and accurate dashboards is a great first step in mastering recurring reports. 📚 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 & 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 Reports shouldn't end at dashboards. The majority of teams rely on slide decks and docs for several key reasons. They create a static snapshot of report data: they’re easier to distribute via email, and they provide a layer of security, access, and even printability that isn’t available in dashboards. Create a set of standardized templates for different types of reports to save time on formatting. From brand fonts, to colors, and layout, your team shouldn't be starting from scratch each month.  🤖 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 & 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Automate report generation to ensure reports are ready when you need them. With Rollstack, you can set up your reports to automatically generate and deliver to your inbox or clients. Rollstack pulls in the latest data to create up-to-date slide decks with just a few clicks. This automation saves time and reduces the risk of human error, allowing you to focus on analyzing the data and providing valuable insights to your clients. 📓 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 You may know all the acronyms in your report, but key stakeholders may not. Develop a comprehensive data dictionary to ensure consistency and clarity across reports. This helps maintain a common understanding of metrics and definitions within your team, accelerating new hire onboarding and keeping stakeholders informed. 📂 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 Use version control systems for your templates and data sources. This allows you to track changes over time, revert to previous versions if needed, and maintain a history of report iterations. As a Rollstack user, you can access all prior reports in your Rollstack account. 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 & 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀  Scaling your client reports doesn't have to be overwhelming. By centralizing your source of truth, standardizing templates, and automating report generation and distribution, you and your team will get time back to focus on providing insights and building client relationships.
