Corn and soybeans are the primary cash crops in the Midwest but this hasn’t always been the case. Millions of acres of small grains were a common sight in the mid-1900’s but this has changed dramatically, and not for the better. In this webinar, we will examine how the conventional corn-soybean rotation is detrimental to soil health and limits the farm’s profitability. We will also discuss the Midwest Organic Center’s on-going study that demonstrates the benefits of diversifying crop rotations by integrating small grains, pulses, oilseeds, and livestock, thus improving the health and sustainability of the farm’s soil and budget.
