In partnership with the Rockford Park District, we're proud to expand the impact of DIAMONDS for kids by debuting Next Gems this year as a free mental health and wellness summit curated exclusively for Rockford area youth. As part of DIAMONDS: Michelle Williams, the first Next Gems summit is an invite-only program open held the afternoon of Wednesday, July 17. The program will provide 50 area youth the opportunity to network with professional vendors, engage in breakout sessions led by local mental health professionals, enjoy lunch and giveaways, and experience the impact that the Founders Commission and Rockford Park District have on our hometown region. Our local Rockford Park District teams continue to compete on the national stage this summer! Next up is the Rockford Bears 15U Flag Football team, competing in the National Football League (NFL) Flag Football Championships in Canton, Ohio next week! 🏈 Thank you to the Chicago Bears for sponsoring our team and for funding our trip to Canton. Additionally, the Bears have helped support our Girls Flag Football program, the Chicago Bears Mini Monsters Camp during spring break, and the Rockford Football Training Camp with guest instructor Tremaine Edmunds. In the fall of 2023, Wantz Memorial Park 🛝 underwent a significant renovation, guided by feedback from residents and participants of the Time 2 Play summer playground program. Their input shaped which recreational features were retained, which new amenities were added, and the overall playground design. This summer, we proudly unveiled the results during our park reopening celebration. 🎉 The reopening of Wantz Memorial Park highlights our commitment to enhancing neighborhood parks for our community. As City of Loves Park, Illinois Mayor Greg Jury said best, "We are excited to watch this neighborhood thrive with the new amenities and opportunities the park provides. We are excited to announce the sale of 168 out of our 218 acres at Elliot Golf Course to Severson Dells Nature Center! This decision allows us to reduce our footprint and reallocate resources to improve our assets, including updating the 55-year-old irrigation system at Ingersoll Golf Course. We are thrilled to turn this land over to an outstanding organization that educates thousands of kids about our environment. Severson Dells Nature Center plans to transform the golf course into an urban nature preserve, a plan we fully support for the educational and natural benefits it will bring to our community. We are excited to announce that 815 Ice Theatre will represent Rockford at the 2024 Theatre on Ice United States Figure Skating National Competition from June 25th to June 29th! ⛸️ The event will be held at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. This marks the first time a team from Rockford will compete in this national competition. The team consists of 14 talented skaters from the area, ranging in age from 10 to 48. Theatre on Ice (TOI), also known as Ballet on Ice in Europe, is a unique form of competitive figure skating. It combines the elegance of figure skating with the drama and artistry of theatre and dance.
