Independence Day, recognized on July 4, is a national holiday that celebrates the birth of America, including its history, heritage, values and people. We invite our community to reflect on the freedom we are granted as we strive to become our very best. Happy Independence Day from Rochester Community Schools.

About us
Rochester Community Schools provides a world-class education to 15,000 students residing in the Greater Rochester area. With one early childhood center, 13 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, and one alternative high school, our mission is to provide a quality education in a caring atmosphere so all students can attain the necessary skills and knowledge to become lifelong learners and contribute to a diverse, interdependent and changing world. To fulfill our mission and better position our students for the future, the community overwhelmingly voted to invest in our schools. By approving a $185 million bond proposal, funding is in place for improved student safety and school security and infrastructure and technology enhancements. RCS programs and services include: pre-K classes for children, ages 3-4; comprehensive K-12 curriculum; adult education; special education for ages 0-26; award-winning art and music programs; before and after-school childcare; and community enrichment programs. Rochester Community Schools is ranked as a top-three district in Oakland County based on science, social studies, math, and writing test scores. The district has a 96 percent graduation rate and 95 percent of our graduates attend post-secondary schools. The mean SAT score of RCS students is 12 percent higher than the state average and 14 percent higher than the national average. RCS employs highly skilled, caring teachers and staff, and supports a strong parent network. The district maintains a balanced budget that is sustainable, promotes growth, and supports high-quality student programs. More detailed information about curriculum and achievement is available on the district website.

Van Hoosen world studies teacher Matt Cottone and Adams junior Ian Smith are in Normandy as part of a research-intensive international fellowship program focusing on the 80th anniversary of D-Day. They are honoring Michigan native, Auvergne “Abe” Breault from the U.S. Navy, who served in World War II and died when his ship sank near the French coastline. Cottone said, “To see how long the beaches are and the obstacles these brave men had to endure … priceless.” #RCSpride
