Rise & Root Farm is 5-acres in Orange County, NY run cooperatively by 4 inter-generational, multi-racial, LGBTQ+ women
About us
Rise & Root Farm is a five-acre farm, run cooperatively by four owners who are women, inter-generational, multi-racial, and LGBTQ. We’re located in the Black Dirt region of Orange County, NY, in the lower Hudson Valley. The farm is rooted in social justice, and through the healing power of food and farming we work to build a more equitable food system. We are blessed to steward the land we grow on and to have the opportunity to support our communities through farming. We invite people, especially from the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, to come to the farm through a variety of events, and find a welcoming agricultural space. We are strongly rooted in New York City and committed to engaging rural and urban communities through food and farming. We have worked with community gardens and urban farms in NYC and beyond, and we have dedicated our lives to increasing the number of people growing and eating good food. You can find us seasonally at: Union Square Greenmarket (NYC) La Finca del Sur Community Garden (Bronx, NY) Kingston Farmers Market (Kingston, NY) Rise & Root Farm (Chester, NY) In the spring, we offer seedlings for purchase. All seedlings are grown using Certified Organic potting mix from Vermont Compost. Seeds are selected because they are heirloom, rare, organic and/or disease resistant varieties.

Please help us get back on our feet to farm after a devastating storm damaged our crops and soil.
We were so excited to share that we’re 2/3 of the way to our fundraising goal! Then this happened. The wind shredded the plastic on one of our tunnels. We got over 3 inches of rain in about 12 hours after getting 2 inches just a week ago. The fields just can’t hold it all. We are still committed to providing food to our communites. Obviously this is a setback. Extreme weather is becoming more and more common and we need your help more than ever to keep doing the work. Ten days left in our fundraising campaign and we got this! Together we can make it happen! https://lnkd.in/eJbgGWwp Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far. We are because you are.

Kudos to Stanford University for supporting Black Farmers getting into wholesale markets. I want to know what other institutions are doing the same.
