Is the pendulum swinging from greenwashing to greenhushing?   Our latest #TransparencyIndex finds that almost two-thirds (63%) of FTSE 100 companies are quietly disclosing their ESG progress but not communicating it to the public – putting them at risk of “greenhushing”.   Why does this matter? It’s a huge, missed opportunity for business.   We know most consumers favour responsible brands and transparent businesses. We know a well-governed transparent business attracts more investment and top talent. Transparency is a route for businesses to reduce the risk of greenwashing, gain the benefits of being open, and help us all make better decisions.   This is just one insight from our report, which looked at over 600,000 corporate communications, over 12 months, to chart the transparency gaps between what businesses are factually disclosing on ESG and what they communicate.   This report isn’t another analysis of ESG progress – our focus is on transparency and which businesses should be commended for being open and balanced about what they do and disclose, and what they say in social media commentary and chatter.   We’ve highlighted several standout companies for their high levels of disclosure or minimal transparency gaps. By now, we’ve all read, heard, or watched for ourselves how last night’s first presidential debate between current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump went. While the majority of mainstream media, including CNN, claimed this a win for Trump, some factors contributing to the former President’s persuasive performance may have flown under your radar: 📌 Heading into the debate, the majority of social media conversations on Twitter/X and Reddit showed strong support for Trump and noted potential biases of the moderators and CNN network toward Trump. Over 184K total mentions alone referenced CNN.  📌 While the age and fitness of both candidates to lead the country only comprised ~5% of the broadcast itself, it supercharged social media and made up almost a third of all debate mentions (31%). 📌 In their closing remarks, Trump discussed fewer topics and issues than Biden but spoke for 10 seconds longer than Biden. This month, we dove deeper into the #CorporatePride conversation, from how the Fortune 100 marked the occasion, with 47% of companies participating, to social media discussions of brand involvement in Pride Month celebrations. From logo changes to charitable initiatives, brands showed their support in various impactful ways. Concurrently, consumer discussions highlighted the significance of brand involvement in Pride Month celebrations, focusing on the authenticity of support, the impact of donations, and community engagement.
